Wish you had fared better up top but thanks for the report.
Have felt that -based on reports and some salt grains- mid to lower is presently the best bet.
Good luck on the rest of the trip.

Glad you have found some.

Saw one report with the same guy and same fish posted on 2 stories hours apart--lol
Another( seemed spot on IMHO) said they are still "trickling" in.
Think we are in for a big push very soon- if at all- remember sometimes it just keeps going on like this, but, most others a bigun or two also happens.

Was up this time of Sept for many years in a row and it was sometimes dicey and sometimes great as they spread in the system ---all while way down low was experiencing good mornings and evenings.

If you wanted ro fish mid to lower you would need to camp there to get a good spot,This is as bad as Columbus day, insane# of people.

Jack, I miss not spending time with you on the water. Thanks for the call yesterday and I hope your at least getting some fun in.
There is absolutely no way I can deal with a circus crowd or timing casts just for a fish.
Maybe they will go away after today

Sorry to see this report. I just got back from 4 days on the coast and it was phenomenal weather and scenery, only 50 or so schoolies to 27".  I'm glad I went. Looking down 6 miles of beach at a dramatic sunrise this morning and zero people, I appreciate it even more after this report. I hope to get there in Oct. , more likely later when some steel are upriver.  Keep at it, thanks for the reports.

I will concur I was an ABOLUTE mad house , people everywhere and honestly did not seem like alot of fish. We went to LFZ and honestly got a decent spot. Hooked a few good ones and fouled a few. I did not want to leave , but my buddy did,  BIG MiSTAKE . Fished a few other spots , but not in decent waters as there were people everywhere. On top of that I could only fish with my right ,nondominant arm casting with left was a no go. Did more standing and spaceholding even handed off the pole to my buddy most times if I hit one. Saw DEC in plain clothes giving tickets a trestle LOL. If you were in a good spot fish were there in pools nd deeper water  and not really moving alot. I personally did not feel they are in  there in huge numbers.

Weekends are NOT a time to be on the SR.
Don't care how many fish are around- weekends are a circus.
That includes the last half of Fridays too.

There are a lot of factors that contribute to the zoo.
Free fishing days in NY, stupid Facebook pages leading sheep and yes, the folks that only have weekends to get out.
We get the same deal here on the mighty Hudson when stripers run. At least there is 200 miles to spread out.

I get it that many only have weekends or Holidays- does not change the circus though.

A good cold rain might pull a bunch of people north or west, but until we get that the SR and the Oz, maybe the Black ( talk that one up they put a LOT of salmon in the Black, nowhere near the crowds to my knowledge) are the only places drawing significant numbers of fish.  As to numbers, they boxed a lot of fish on the lake over the summer, and DEC does not care a whit what comes back as long as they get the required numbers for egg take.
