RJ,  I think you are correct.   Before this year I only went to Redfield res, Sacketts and Henderson Harbor and then I stayed in the harbor.    I know the boat pretty well ,  just not the lake.  It is a close to perfect size for 2 guys.   Tows and launches easy.     I do need a bit of more confidence on the  bigger water so I am starting slow and working my way to explore at bit more.  I am learning the Godfrey launch area a bit so it will probably be my first after dark try.

Story about how I got the boat.   I had a REAL deep V Lund Side console.   That and my current boat were in a barn that collapsed under snow.   Got the insurance and bought  a 20 ft Starcraft  I/O had it for 2 years or so   and when gas went to $5  gallon the first time I wanted to sell the Starcraft.  I asked my buddy about the 14 footer and he said he still had it in his  rebuilt barn.   It was a little bowed in one spot  and had a dent in the bottom,   but held water as well before  with only a cup or so an hour leak.  Talked to my buddy and he was the only guy I ever went fishing with.   He had  traded in the 15 horse (that was beat up from the collapse) on a 20 with electric start, but never used the boat in 3 years. We came to an agreement  I fixed the boat  up got it water ready and I sold my Starcraft.   We fished in it a few times,  but his wife had a stroke and he could not go anymore.   He offered to give it to me but I did  not take him up on it.   He is a life long  friend and he has  used it  10 or so  times in last 5 years (all with me )   as he  can never get away.   It is registered to him, and  he offers to sign it over every year, but I know it makes him feel good to have it.  It stays at my house all summer and in his barn all winter  At some point I will get it signed over.

Andy, I have had 3 in it a few times.   Just limits the top speed and for the most part 1 pole per person.

Darned near sunk in a 12 ft flat bottom with a 6 horse Merc on a nice sunny Salt water  day when the wind suddenly picked up while Blue fishin a small inlet.

Never again - went to a 14 Ft high sided side console Fisher with a 40 Merc .It was advertised as a Walleye boat but was GREAT on Blues and Stripers within  a mile or so of shore. Lasted a lotta years too with few repairs
Dont miss it- bought waders and went to SR country.

Clint shackelton is southwest from godfrey, probably 5 miles across and another 3 to for up the lake. The shoal I was refering to is messenger shoal and the bay. My favorite spot to fish is out in front of godfrey, when you leave the launch look straight across the lake and youll see a cell tower aim for it. I troll at 1.0 to 1.2 miles an hour as you get closer to the cell tower start looking to the left or east and youll see blind island another killer spot lake goes from 40 to 3 feet I usually stay aways off as there will be 30 boats and I like the unpressured fish. Back to godfrey, most times i fish in 30 feet west from the launch with you fish finder or if you have a map look for three bowls I call the the water basically is deeper in the center and shallower oround the edges Ill fish that area alot. Just tring to help here another tip I will do if the wind allows is if im marking fish on the bottom and not getting bites I will make passes over them from different directions, sometimes the presentation coming at them from a different angle triggers them. Oneida can get ugly fast Im always watching the sky and other boats if people start running for shore there is usually a reason.

Thanks for the help John, I will try those spots.   Probably about a 20 minute hike to shackleton with my boat as it will go 15 mph maybe a bit faster.  Is it closer from the south shore state launch????   That's one of the main reasons I have not ventured too far from the launch as every time I have went this year there was always a chance for T storms and high winds and do not need a long ride on an ugly lake.  Thanks again man.

I was up at the Cornell Field Station last fall on Schackleton Point, and you can basically see the State Launch from there (there is an island in the way, otherwise you could read the registration numbers with binoculars).  If your concern is the lake kicking up, the south launch has to be a lot closer than running across and up the lake.

Good morning, new member here.
I have been coming up to the river for 20 years for salmon and steel, but have never been up during the summer.
I'm thinking of spending a long weekend up at my camper this summer and was wondering what type of fishing I can do with the flyrod while I'm there.
Thanks for any help.

Swing streamers and larger nymphs...anything buggy with a dead/drag free drift in the AM and late PM... you stand a chance at a smallmouth, atlantic, or steelhead... the bigger flies will keep the smaller creek chubs and salmon/trout fry and smolts away. Cone and beadheads on nymphs and streamers would help in deeper spots. Cover alot of water and you should catch something... goodluck
