Make sure you know the rules before you fish.  Here is a list of people who didn't, and got tickets.

A lot of those court dates are a while ago.  If this is all that got written, it is a drop in the bucket.

Also interesting in that list is a Randy Jones, listed as using weight more than 4 feet from the bait, and failing to comply with an order from an ECO, back in April.  That could be an interesting story.

Retired there could never be enough of those. But instead of a fine they sould have to do community service and walk the banks from the black hole to upper fly zone the end of October and pick everything up along the way.

Speaking of which where has Dr. Jones been? Always liked hearing from him Every now and then...they're even measuring leaders down in douglastons now.

OK-- lemme be absolutely sure on this . Just my pea brain at work over thinking the leader and foul hook thing.
 ONE--
Generally run about 10 to 12 feet of leader material beyond the fly line.
Only bout  2 1/2 to 3 feet beyond any weights.
Am I correct in believing its the 'beyond the weights' that is in question here ??
Minimum 2 feet max 4 feet-???
  TWO----
   The pea again--
In regard to the foul hooked fish keeping charges--When not broken off but immediately released ( in my practice not even removed from the water) is playing a foul hooker illegal in and of itself  ??.
Heck occasionally they are lined so close to the mouth one may THINK they are legit only to get close to observe otherwise.
Am I correct in thinking somebody was actually KEEPING a foul hooked fish leading to the charge as opposed to playing and immediately releasing it ???
Looking for reasonable or educated interpretation here not just a cold read of the laws but how are they actually enforced. There can be a difference..

Trevor,I believe it is max. 4' from hook in entire river, there is no minimum as far as I know.In the fly zones you may not have more than 1/8 ounce of weight combined.
You must immediately release any foul hooked fish, you can land it but must release it.

Ok without digging out the regs.. I'm 99.9% this is correct to my knowledge.
1. If you bring a foul hooked fish in it must immediately be released.. Meaning NO picture taking.. I was never a big fan of that anyway..
2. From the first buoy at the mouth upstream, it's a NO more then 4' from the hook with weight..
3. DSR has their own set of property rules. They require a break in the line as well of at leat NO more then 4'.. The rest of the river (excluding the fly zones) a leader is an option but the weight from hook is standard through out..
4. The fly zones allow you to have up to 15' of leader after the fly line (no running line) but the 4' weight rule still applies until 5-1, then it's ZERO weight, even sinking leaders or weighted flies.. I find it's not really an advantage to put weight over 2' other then to line fish..
5. A GUIDE should know better.. Some don't get the reputation of nick names such as : the snaggler, the long liner or the sweeper without just reason.. Thats why it's most important to research your guide prior to hiring..
Finally:
Fish USA Forum don't take kindly to self promotion as it's stated in their forum rules.. Reason why many guides don't frequent this site very often..

Hope this helps..
