yekes maybe its just me.
My friend MS fished close to where I was on Wed and said he had about 50 chances to present to fish.
Not just blowing thru but stopping and holding briefly.
Hooked up with 5.
Guess I have to learn this game again, again.
I knew after taking a couple decades off I would have a learning curve to climb, but every year?
Maybe I'd be better off waiting for rustfaces.

Two Bob, how is the chips man these days?
You know yourself 100 yards of water can be a whole other ball game... actually sometimes just a few steps up or downstream

Bill is doing well.
Been spanking walleyes in Oneida.
First trip for salmon was Wed.

Yep all the difference in the world.
Bill said there was very little "fishing" going on when he was there also but the fish were holding for him.
Suxs that the upstream lodgers eventually found this water on low water last year.
Easy picking for a person with a twitchy wrist and no conscience.

Db, while I agree the presentation to a salmon can be better , I don't think the fishing is any different a few 100 yards or so. They move hold- move hold until they hit their digging destination . So it seems.

Steelhead , absolutely . It can be night or day :)

Who is bill ? A steelhead is a grateful head ?

Tuna gotta somewhat disagree... I've seen fish run a mile or so of river and hold... seen em go back down to estuary and then run again the next day. Not only cbinooks...coho too... Even have caught fish a day later with my fly in its mouth from the day before...
Then there's different water types that hold fish longer. While the water above and below will produce 1's and 2's stragglers through shallower flats(unless its a donkey Kong run)... its definitely complex and all subjective to an individual who holds the rod

One more quick question guys. Is there anywhere down near the mouth that you can shore fish or wade and cast spoons or other hardware? Maybe a pier or something?

Tuna some water holds fish better than other as you know.
Agood spot is a good spot but being in the right  place to get the correct drift is helpful also.

In the case of my trip, I was stuck on the wrong side of the river to get the best presentation but the real problem with placement was that there was a bunch of snaggers working below me stirring the fish up so they never really stopped in what is usually a place they do.
They just kept moving.
Had I fished below them I might have done better, but Bill (metalslayer) had
told me the area had filled in during the flood and I decided to fish down river checking it out so was getting preused fish to fish to.

Sorry I had misunderstood an Email I got from MS.
It seems he was fishing much lower on the river than I thought.
Beechs with seasons passes definately have an advantage at this time.

I used to hear about guys smelting at the mouth, but I am unsure of public access.  There is a small pier by the mouth of Grindstone Creek, access from Selkirk Shores State Park, and when they are staging it sometimes produces, also a good spot to sand spike for Chrome and Browns.  Check the regs , but I think you are OK using spoons Downstream of the Route 3 bridge in Port Ontario, definitely more water opens up if you have a small boat or canoe.

But plunking and casting hardware are definitely less fun than drifting eggs or flies.
