I tend to go off topic when something gets me hyped. Ice fishing does so sorry every salmon fisher .
A flasher makes all the difference in the world when jigging deep water trout.
I busted my buddies stones for years while they used a vex and I old school blind jigged. Well humbled I was. I found one someone left in parking lot and used it for the day . On an Ice forum I found the owner and it was returned but next day I ordered the vex-18 right here on fish USA .
Won't ever look back.

As for species and where I haunt:
The great ADK ' s of New York .
For lakers there is none better the Lake George , second to none would be schroon lake .
Lodging and access is great , cheap and easy.
Now in between those 2 lakes are plenty of fine walleye, panfish and giant pike waters to sink a line.

When the time comes give me a shout and I will give conditions and updates.

You found the owner and gave it back? That's awesome. Kudos. I bet the guy that lost it was sick. He probably cried when you told him that you had it and was going to give it back. I won't ice fish without one now. If I don't have my flasher, I'm going home.

For me it's the same old.   I grew up not to far away and for many weekends since I was I kid  we would pester our mom to take us up and then when I could drive I would beg for the car keys.   I have snagged them, lifted them, netted them, speared them, tailed them, tackled them, chased them and even fished for them.    I am with HT fishing for them especially down low is a bit more  challenging.  For me I only started with the steel 2 years ago, never  knew what I was missing and now I am hooked.  
 
Don't get me wrong I will go and try to play with a few sharks, but November and December are the months I wait for.    Then January through  March to get some perch through the ice.   I am wanting to get to Oneida this year too and get a waldo through the ice  too.
 
I too  get a bit disgusted with the slobs, drunks at 8 am leaving cans everywhere  and just the folks who are jerks and feel that they own the river.   BUUUUUUT    if you want to play, you go and deal and do the best you can with what you have.

Got up there Tues evening late- looked at the needle just before dark- no runners
 Wed Mowed and trimmed till bout 6 Pm and then went down to the estuary and looked over the bridge-Yards get hairy when away for a few weeks  lol.
 First thing I saw was a dying Ho male spinning around and coming to the surface repeatedly right by the bridge- About 8 to 10 lbs. Was surprised at it being a Ho.
 At bit later saw two Kings making wakes and swimming near the surface. Also saw a few large swirls and wakes of large fish here and there. Mostly way up.
 NOT a lot- NOT a push or run- but YES its starting.
 Bass fisherman near the bridge said his brother hooked up and lost a King by Pineville a day or two ago.
 Buged out bout 8 last night- 24 hrs just for chores. New place is making me nuts and hadda get right back.
   Fishing- hopefully next trip. Woulda loved to do it today but--responsibilities --darn.
The Forum will be fired up big time in a week or two   lol.

Salmon are bigger and fight harder than steel.  This is true.  18 wheelers are bigger and pull heavier loads than Masseratis.  How many rich Middle agers buy 18 wheelers when  they go through the mid life thing?  Steelhead, like Masserati's, are FAST, and totally unpredictable, especially in the warmer water of October.
 
Judging from his posts for the last few years here, and on other boards, calling Topdog99 an angler is a misuse of the word.  Anglers practice fair chase and wait for the jerk at the other end of the line instead of throwing it in themselves.   'Dog's patter, misspelled or not, implies he is more of a "I spot 'em, I got 'em" type of yanker.  The great hordes of such "ethical" fishers is the major reason I don't get excited over the sharks anymore, even if there is a chance to rub elbows with Charlie Daniels or George Clooney!

Definitely not a fan of Shark fishing on the SR.  Chrome is the only interest or maybe late season fishing away from the SR for some Cohos.  I went twice, first year fished a different stream coming out of LO and had a blast.  Unmolested salmon will actually play, despite several debates while in town having dinner.  The following year went on the SR, and was disgusted even with a guide so never again.  Maybe Alaska next year for Salmon but have even heard the art of flossing is fairly common especially for Sockeyes.  Plan to stay away from the Kenai as I've heard it can be elbow to you know what....  Notice I said heard...., but I would be very saddened to see behavior (snagging, etc...) like on the SR and spend the coin it takes to get one to Alaska.  Is November hear yet?!?!?!?!?

I had a experience several years ago on the LFZ that disputes the snagger vs fair hooked thingy.
I was fishing near three guys that were obvious lifters and I think I showed them the light,at least I hope so.They were hooking up but I was into fish two to their one.After awhile one of them asked me if I was actually getting hits,I said yes and if you fish for them and BELIEVE that they will hit you won't have to "lift" them and will hopefully feel better about the "experience".He was interested in seeing what I was saying so I litterly took him under my wing and showed him.I won't bore you with the details but after a hour or so I had all three of them FISHING for Salmon and they started catching them fair.They told me that they were having a better time of it now that they were FISHING!

Here is the kicker.  If more people did fish,  more people could fish.   I the fish we not all spooked to H$ll with 10 lbs of lead wizzing by them there could even be more FISHING
