hot tuna

Here is some too. With the very good rainfall and mostly cooler(early) temps this summer, there has been no mention of skams or atlantics .. Humm ? Maybe all those wild salmon might need to be put in a better perspective . Maybe the creel limit for salmon may need to increase to 5 ?

Sorry for double post...just saw this one. Tuna that has been a big head scratcher. Although in early June there were quite a few fish in the hatchery and then they disappeared... also saw countless large boils while small mouthing this past summer. was thinking possibly with such high levels of water and cooler temps the summer runs were not forced in to their normal summer lies as there was no need??? Just a thought. About three weeks ago they took the first spawning Atlantic from the hatchery. I haven't seen any yet but I have heard of quite a few trout caught recently.

All aside, I imagine a five creel limit would not hurt the kings one bit. They are drinking strong in numbers to say the least

As I posted in another thread,  one of the biologists on the AS program said there were good numbers in the UFZ, a couple of weeks ago, with Skams mixed in.  As to the kings, maybe nature is selecting for the earlier run because the redds get used over and over, and the early eggs maybe get buried better and so survive better.  But I think this year it is those 40's in early August at night, combined with the colder water coming off the hill. We're not hearing of anything except stagers off the Genesee, but the water temp in the river is up at 75, what Bill Abraham always referred to as the Thermal barrier, and the reason why we don't usually see a salmon run in the Gennie until Mid to Late September even though there will be fish around the mouth by Labor Day (and they are there at night now.)   I remember seeing the most rooster tail action in the SR one year when I had Labor Day off and took the drive and paid the $10 to go to Douglaston (which also says it was a LONG time ago.)

Go getum Bud- and then come back for more --
 - Agree that the limit on Kings would make no difference- heck, they die anyhoo.
Perhaps a 5 fish limit up top after they have a chance to 'pass it on'.

I can't deny mine was a weak attempt at best.
Went to look at water I never got to see and no takes to boot.

3 SALMON TIL 9/15 NO LIMIT AFTER THAT TILL THEY'RE GONE?
Gives everybody a chance at some moderately fresh salmon everywhere in the river and then haul all the carcasses you want outta state thank you very much!

I know the bosnians and Russians I see up there would love the five fish limit, how there gonna get 125lbs of salmon back to the car is another question. Never forget the guy I floated by mid December or later with3 half dead hoes on a stringer, you would have thought he just hit the lottery. Eat them up boys, Ill squirt some ketchup on my work boots and eat them first

I have n't killed any fish up there in years, too much hassle and they are  called "mud sharks" for good reason.I'm not even crazy for them out of the lake,no comparison to the Salmon from the salt.

Lucky, what an interesting concept. Early spawners having higher success rate due to burrying of early eggs in the most common redds... kinda makes sense. More food for thought: chinooks are mostly summer runs out on the wild west coast....
