I have seen guys shore wading in parts of the estuary . There is a fishing platform right next to the rt -3 bridge. Regs state no trebles and same river regs apply all the way to the first bouy at the mouth ( lighthouse ) on SR .
You can cast / use any type of general tackle beyond that and any pier such as L13 stated out into the lake.
I have watched plenty salmon jumping in the lake around the Selkirk Shores State Park pier . You can even night fish there as well. Try glow spoons ;)
We may just do that in the time I'm there over the next 5 days.

Good luck.

Ps. Agree with ya db.. My point was just when the salmon are running it don't matter much as long as you are fishing what I call good ( broken) water

I been tossing on weather to bring fly rod or not. Seeing I'm just a passenger along for the ride , I really have no say on where they fish. Bro -in-law & his ole lady aren't really river fishers so I highly doubt they will venture in the water.
However , I will pack a fly swatter and cleats just incase .

Tuna be on the look out for the witness protection agency... a rumor has been leaked of a possible kidnapper stalking Selkirk shores and surrounding areas

When I first started fishing the Sr back in or around 1980 there was often talk of the runs of yesteryear starting in August with decent pushes being commonplace.
Many believed  since  fish were stripped at the hatchery later in the season  that this produced genetics  narrowing runs to a shorter time frame in later Sept /oct activity being the main push.
Seems to me that recent activity -in particular with the 'wild fishes'-that August is and will likely continue as the 'new' beginning of the annual migration.
Read a report that most of whats showing now  has' the fin' and this is similar to last year as well.  Could it be that 'wild' fish do in fact run earlier ?? Could it be that its because they may hatch earlier??
 Phood for thought--

Here is some too. With the very good rainfall and mostly cooler(early) temps this summer, there has been no mention of skams or atlantics .. Humm ? Maybe all those wild salmon might need to be put in a better perspective . Maybe the creel limit for salmon may need to increase to 5 ?

God forbid but can you imagine the increase in ambulance calls for those who crap out trying to drag five salmon instead of three.  As for increasing the limits, leave it as is.  I don't think the present limits stop those inclined to take more to begin with but that's a forum for another time.

I have always believed that the natural spawned fish return earlier than the hatchery spawned brethren.

There might be something to the "wild" fish running early but I do remember some early runs way back.
However, since it looks like this is going to be a early run I am now really getting the itch, maybe the week after Labor Day hhhmmmmmmmm

Yes jack, august runs are nothing new. Some years better than others. The pressure has definitely increased. I do believe it will never get out of hand though as you can see many people did make trips up in the past three weeks to get skunked... most don't come back in august again after that. Its a crap shoot for sure... some years I'd get one...some none...some years some... one year over 30 in two days. The most amount of fish ive ever seen move in one day was in august believe it or not.My family members and I have always believed that early fish were natural spawners... they definitely do seem more abundant in the past five years.
