Well that wraps up another "Salmon" season for me,I wait all year and it passes in a flash. Now I'm resting a day until I start the chores around the homestead tomorrow.
Overall I had my usual good time fighting fish, enjoying the great weather (a little too warm),and sharing the water with Rich for a couple days, topped off with enjoying breakfast with Rich and his wife Wed AM.
I had lots of success with black, olive wooly buggers and the Spruce Fly.Also, caught a few on egg color, dark peacock, and orange estez. And would you believe I caught a couple Kings on a BH Pheasant tail.In the two trips I played with several Steel and landed a couple, all on a green flashback peacock size 10 nympth.
As usuall the biggest negative of the Lake Ontario tribs is the large number of complete Aholes that come to "fish".Where is your neighbor and friends Clint? The only place I saw the DEC was in their vehicles, they could have wrote citations until they ran out of ink on the LFZ.As Fitchy said it is a shame such a great fishery is ruined by what the DEC allows to continue there.
One fish in particular that I would like to mention.Wed PM I had a fish take a Orange estez fly, after a LONG HARD fight I got a good look at it and it was a Coho and I know it was 20 lbs +.A guy was about to net it and it made one of those last little runs.....and the hook came loose. That was probably the biggest Coho that I can remember playing with in a long time if ever.
I might make a late Oct trip to the SR,but that will be a trout trip and if any Salmon get on my line it will be incidental.
