I've never fished it, but I'm considering it. I know that a couple of you fish it hard. I'm not looking for toothy critters. I'm looking for panfish. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I don't even know if there is a good population of crappie in there or not. After looking at the map, the South end looks good, so info about that part of the lake would be very helpful. I'm not asking for your spots or gps coordinates. I would just appreciate some general info about ice fishing the south end of the lake. Please feel free to send PMs if you don't want to give the info publicly. Rest assured, I'll return the favor any time I can.

park at the firemans beach and walk straight out. stay towards the south end and theres a shallow weed bed there that I used to get a few gills out of. The dock bubblers will be keeping the water open along the southern shore.

I was out last Wednesday and it was 12" of solid ice. I know we haven't lost any even with the rain from the weekend. As for snow, we just got 5+" of fresh snow last night today, so I guarantee there's going to be snow on it... As for the pike, it was slow...Had 2 flags with catching the one (bout a 22" pike),  from 8am till 2pm.

Ice tourney scheduled for Conn on Feb 22nd if* ice is still good.  As of Sunday it was 10 in. roughly of good, solid ice. Water appeared to be a lil more muddy and murky then normal.... Usually that lake is crystal clear.  Anyone know what that's about??

Ice was 10" on the north end last Saturday. Only fished it for about 2 hrs midday on my way home from pymy, and had zero bites.  I also noticed the water was quite murky. Most of the lakes I've fished this year have been like that.

Thanks for the info guys and I have also noticed the murky water, I fished 2 mile last weekend which is a spring feed lake that you can typically see the bottom in ten feet of water with no problem and you could barely see 2 or 3 feet below the ice this year.  I dont know if it might be from the rain we got late this year after ice started to form then it rained and lakes are not moving much current to clean the murky stuff out.

Slabdaddy,
The only public access I know of is either the fish commission launch on the north end or Fireman's Beach/Silver Shores on the south end. Both get lots of pan fish traffic. If you can find a property owner somewhere in the middle you can easily get away from the competition. There are extensive weed beds along the shore lines that as of last weekend were still vibrant and green. Try to fish the outer edges.  The coves on the middle of the west side of the lake have nice points but if you don't have access it's a very long walk from either end. There is also a big hump out from midway beach that has lots of hard bottom slopes to work.
If the fishing is slow you can always gawk at all of the geese.
