RESPECT- if it was commonplace there would be few negative issues.
Living in a State where deer hunting is based upon written permission of the landowner door knocking is the norm. I have seen first hand what the impact of slobs can create.
The unfortunate reality is that  the attitude and actions of our fellow fishermen ( like the term or not)  creates the bulk of our  issues. That combined with a growing realization of using the river for personal profit is  creating the winds of change.

For the 30 years I've been fishing the Battenkill it's remained the same. If the landowner owns both sides he can keep  you out and from anchoring. One side and you can be in the water and anchor.  Very simple. As the DSR seems to be both sides, it makes eminent sense to me that they could prohibit boats from anchoring, as this holds true in lots of other NYS trout streams.  Dawn doesn't have a leg to stand on (especially when she's knocked on her azz). Neither does the Tailhook Lodge.  The fate of the river is going to be in the hands of  license revenue and what the DEC perceives as angler/days. If numbers of fisherman decrease drastically due to limited access, the DEC will cut the production numbers in the hatcheries. The private Idaho fisheries won't be so glorious. The numbers of the common man still hold sway in some ways. The bank rights pretty much guarantee the status quo. I hope the DSR goes to 10 grand. More fish will get through unmolested . Plenty of snaggers there, and trout mishandled, too.

Really , How well do they enforce the tube and canoe hatch on the Bkill ? Just a question.

How's this for justice, I'm hearing that the woman that put the beat down on Dawn has been charged for using excessive force.
There is something to the old LE adage, "take the winner to jail and the loser to the hospital."

Unreal on both sides. People like these two are ruining for all of us like everyone has said throughout this post. Granted Dawn started it but come on.

They've started making some arrests from people drinking on the river and trespassing, other than that they don't. State Police have started putting up DWI roadblocks on the main road along the river. They manage the Battenkill as a put and take fishery  and recreation river. It's not managed as the world class fishery it once was. The  small stretch of C and R  fishes better May, June, Sept, Oct. so it's not as conflicted, anyway . My point wasn't about use, but about  property law.  The B'kill; has degraded as a fishery, thanks to bank erosion . Rather than making the gargantuan effort of correcting it, the DEC has let the water sports have their playland.  I fish the hatches until Memorial Day and then let it slide.
The one investor that bought and leased lots of land and built the Battenkill Lodge, has basically lost his shirt on the deal, and it provides an ego boost and tax write-off, but little else. Not in Barclay's league apparently, but neither is the Battenkill  the fishery the  Salmon River is.  Tubes and canoes don't anchor, they merrily  hoop and holler through his property unmolested by law.

X2 ugly... its pathetic... I know dawn is dawn but who's to say the other party wasn't casting at Right at their boots??? We all know that happens often. Look at the disrespect jbr had with his son at the ball park.

As far as pfr, private property and bank easements check the pf maps. Anything not highlighted is private property in which most cases the landowner does own in to the middle... its the sad fact for most average joes but at least there still are miles of public fishing bank with plenty of public access and parking

As to the "You are OK as long as you are in the water" I started fishing >50 years ago on Oatka Creek, and Spring Creek, and the Garbutt Club has had large chunks of both locked up for longer than that.  Try the "I'm wading" line on the Beaverkill above Roscoe, and see how far that gets you with the JP, and those clubs have been there for a longer time than I;ve been around.  Even Fran Betters had parts of the Ausable that had been "de facto" public for years posted up last time I went up there.

As to closing the hatcheries, that is not going to happen, the trib fishery is just an afterthought to DEC, the main emphasis is on the Lake.  If the contaminant levels keep coming down maybe they'll make it no trib fishing and go back to building a catfood factory.  Pulaski would probably smell better in September and October.

I still have not seen the vid, but if the Senator and trapper and Driftwood can do it, I'm with Dawn, too. Stay out of her 150 feet, you've got 12 whole miles, and Morgan Lyle says that's enough for everybody!

the whole thing strikes me as pretty sad
i know she is trying to make money, and rubbing people the wrong way
i know people go nuts over catching these fish
i know skermishes and arguments happen every day
i know she is not the favorite of alot of people and maybe she deserves that
i know that the other woman has now had charges pressed against her
i know alot of the other comments and thoughts that have been going around in this very public melt down
but the one thing that hits me the hardest is the horror that her little girl must be feeling over the whole mess..........the one thing i was proud of in my divorce and the 12 years that have passed since is that i always ALWAYS put how things would impact my kids first....and i think that she must be so caught up in her own life and the crap that it brings along that not only has she gone off the deep end with her actions, but she has done as much harm to her daughter as she has done to her own reputation.
