With trout season opening soon, I was looking for other live baits  for trout.  Butter worms and Black Soldier Fly larva are new ones to me.
Just asking if anyone has tried either of these for trout or other fish?

Butter worms work well. They're like bigger wax worms with a little red coloring to them. Never seen soldier fly larvae.

Butter are good, but expensive as heck. Better off with waxies for the $.
Small shrimp will take trout and so will small crayfish.
I usually have most of these on me at all times if i"m bait fishing; maggots, wax worms, meal worms, butter worms, red worms, small-med fatheads & salmon eggs.
I bought mayfly nymphs one year and they were to soft to stay on the hook.
Can I ask where you ordered the  Black Soldier Fly larva ?

JEB ....You can order BSF Larva on line. They are sold under the trade mark name of Phoenix Worms but other bait supply  houses sell them as BSF Larva.  They are not an evasive worm so you can raise them yourself.  You may also buy them dried. (that's different)

I've seen them on line, but thought you had a company that you have used before.

What kind of hooks are you using for the bait?  Small jigs, or just really small hooks tied to your mono?
