I had to got to town so I stopped by a few spots for a looksy.  Pressure was sure low today down low, maybe 15 people from behind the muffler shop to the  bend.   Watched for 20 minutes or so and no hook ups.   Ball park had 2 cars, 81 hole had 4 or 5 cars  and the staircase was pretty empty too.  When I was in town watching I was picking out spots where I  would have casted, I think next time water is high I may give it a try, but probably with my spinning rod.

Clint what time were you there? Ball park had about 15 cars this morning when I was there. Quite a few guys above bridge and the bend below the town pool looked like salmon season. Drove over the tall bridge just before dark and about ten guys in the shoots below...

Spin rod with a bobber could be effective but don't be afraid to try the fly rod. You can high stick/ dead drift egg patterns, nymphs or strsamers from an upstream cast and then let it swing out below you (hope this method doesn't offend anyone). Mostly short casts in skinny riffs around there in high water. The upstream approach and angle is all dependent on your weight used, velocity of water and area of prime target...

Watched a video of aka . Snagger wher he had said 40 hookups using the fly rod in the high water. If not mistaken there were at least 4 PAC- Man size shots on that rig. Yup high stick em .. Lol

It was about 200 or so give or take.  Maybe everyone was at lunch or went home to watch football   ;0).   Actually was pretty surprised.   HT I saw that video and I sometimes have a little trouble believing those reports (maybe I am just jealous).   I have met Shane once or twice briefly  and he seems like a pretty good guy.    DB I was more thinking of just drifting/bottom bouncing with the spin rod.  I could use some of those eggs I have in the fridge and cover more water and cast easier with the extra weight I would need.  Would strictly be soft water towards the shore or like you described with the fly rod.

Yup clint... just remember, with persistent mending, bottom bouncing or lower water column "can" be achieved... and when all else fails, a tight lined swing can always be used... always use enough weight to allow your fly to swing straight down though... you can often get a grab when its straight down from ya ;)

***Edit***

...As little weight to allow a full drift...

I've actually been trying to tie a fly that will work on the dead drift, and then have the profile on the swing.  I had good luck with one last fall, but so far this year, they have only caught rocks.

Clint, remember what 2B was saying, the fish are looking for the same kind of water regardless of flow.  Find the man walking speed 4 foot deep spot and the fish should be there, flies or eggs.

Upriver was busy in spots. I got  a shark on a leech, a domestic on a psycho prince and had 2 chrome jumpers spit at me on small oregon cheese eggs. All fair .
From those I saw and talked to, I did average to good. Wasn't hard to fish the 1200 in the zones without lots of weight.  At least I hung up very, very little.  Fair amount of people around the Pineville bridge. I ended the day there- noone had anything good to say.   Can't wait to go back Th. thru Sat.  Nancy bought me a new Rio Switch line for my B-Day.  Even ordered it from Fish USA.

PS  he also has a post somewhere where he talks about people saying the people in Altmar are snaggers and litterers but all the trash is down by town.

Funny thing is all his lodgers have been down standing in the runs at the ballfields blocking fish and below the long bridge doing the same thing.
So the way I see it wherever his devotees are the worst actions are.

He also complains about the people snagging steelheads.
Did a spit take of the morning brew reading that comedy.
Can't make this stuff up.
Nobody would believe it.

Lucky, I've had success with quite a few. Never was too concerned with profile when tying, more so presentation in my drift... have hit many steel in the past by letting various egg and estaz patterns or nymphs swing out after a dead drift usually giving a mend before the initial swing to let it get down again. Have also had success with flies like WOoly worms Green machines and even Wooly buggers on the dead.

4 foot walking pace water is definitely ideal text Book water to target. But I tend to target all types of water and fish will always hold in many different lies troughout the river. I would suppose that I would be sliGhting myself if I didn't.

charlie great report hopefully I can catch up with you guys one of the days that you are up maybe Friday.
