Penn Battle 2 fits you perfectly.  Sub $100, size from 1000 to 8000, you can buy spare spools reasonably online.  I have two of these with two spools in the 2000 size for my panfishing.  Spooled with 6lb mono and 15/20lb braid so I can switch as needed.

The spinfisher V mentioned above is a great reel but it is HEAVY!  Otherwise no complaints, that's one of my saltwater rigs in a 4500.  Just got a Penn clash this fall and I love it.  3000 series, butter smooth, also picked up a second spool for mono.  That'll be my main catfish/wiper rig this year.  But it is $150.  I think the extra $50 was worth it, but I don't mind at all using the Battle 2s.

Battle 2 here too. Like it. Bought more for salt use, but works just fine for wipers. Not sure if I like more than my Pflueger Arbor. I'd say the Battle 2 is better built. Mine is 4000. I'd prefer 3500 size. 3000 reels that I have, feel too small for 7' rods that I prefer for wipers.

Anyone using the Diawa BG? All reviews consider it "bullet proof" and for around $100 makes it a semi reasonable buy. I went on the cheap last fall and bought a "junkie" Abu. Those Lakers tore it up and now I'm going to have to upgrade.

I found a BOGO on the Shimano Nexave last spring from one of the big box retailers - can't remember which one right now.  Think I paid around $50 for 2 of em.  Got the 4000 model which holds a couple hundred yards of 15# braid.

My 2 boys - and often their friends who accompany us - beat up fishing gear pretty good and we vacation almost every summer on the Gulf Coast in Mississippi.  I've long sought reels that would hold up to their abuse and withstand the salt, in the $50 price range with no luck.

So far the Nexaves have been excellent.  We fished several hours a day for a week straight in the salt last summer (wading and from piers/jetties/harbor walls) and for everything around home - from big channel cats and steelhead to panfish - and the Nexaves have been excellent so far.

If there is any reel in my arsenal, that is not by Shimano, it is a gift. Umm, except for the fly reel I bought ten years ago and that's only because it came as a combo package that just got opened this week. For pan fish, mind you.... umm, maybe pike and bass and trrr.... troou.... never mind.

I often catch sea fish so I use a reel Okuma Cedros. It's a low-cost model, about $ 100 on Amazon.
