Apparently a man drowned in town trying to save his boy.

No more details that I have heard.
No age for either or names yet.
Dime please post so we-I know it isn't you.

Don't mean to be an alarmist but I lost a friend trying to cross below the Black years back and I freak out every time it happens again.

I looked it up on line.http://www.syracuse.com/n...almon_river.html  So, so sad a situation. I would suspect Andy would fare better in the water. I watched him wade across heavy water like it was strolling in to Byrne's Dairy to get a coffee. I hope he never has to test it.  Nor anyone else. Enjoy your friends and family this weekend, folks.

Thanks Fichy.
The first sketchy report I saw made it seem as if the man had gone in off the RT 11 bridge trying to save his son.
Yes people enjoy your family and friends time with them is the most precious gift we can get.

Hey I know the name and it was not Andy,  although it was a local resident.   I do not know any more details other than what was on line.

Thanks for the concern Bob. The boy is in my sons grade and recreation. Apparently the father had a heart attack after getting his boy to shore. Horrible tragedy to say the least. I drove through town when it happened and saw all of the emergency vehicles. 750 in town above the bridge is no walk in the park without spikes on. Thank god the boy survived but its horrible his father had to go. At the least he died being a hero.

On a brighter note the river has been above average flows, below average temps and kings are in on the east end. I'd say a little less than a month before some shark attacks are reported in the river

My first time on the river in 1990 I went down fishing the tail of the black. My father caught me by the hood of the sweatshirt I was luckily wearing. A korker had fallen off without my father knowing before we went down. The tail of the black is usually the spot when it comes to drownings... Please anybody who fishes the river, wear korkers as they will save your life

Nice to hear from you Andy.
Went a couple of years wearing hip boots as opposed to chest waders-yes- the waters were moderate but even with that they kept me fishing the right  places instead of standing in them- and from going into places that were dangerous.
