2bob,since there's no snow or ice on that picture I guess that was a past day?
I remember those days using the floating jig heads with various color combo's,it's a deadly lure and I still have a bunch. That brings back memories of good times with a couple friends that are no longer with us,the good die young.

Where 2bob is using that fly now there is no snow or ice. Maybe tomorrow, but right now we're in a lull.  I still like floating jigs and twisters for Winter on the Genesee, but the Chrome straighten the hooks on the commercial floating jig heads, so I slide a small cherry bobber up the line, tie on an Octupus  or a gold Wright and McGill (I like 4's for this), and then hook the tail on. I pull the bobber back down over the hook eye, and I've got a floating jig head with a heavy shank  The W+M can be gotten with a bait holder shank that helps keep the tail on longer.  A lot less messy than eggs or skein in the deepfreeze time, and nearly or sometimes more effective.  Of course, if it is warmer out, I'll be using a flyswatter, but I don't go for cleaning guides every 2 or 3 drifts.  All moot until after Christmas now!

PA Lucky is right about that.
Afew small patches of ice in the shade and a smattering of flurries was all I  saw today.
Had to go food shopping for the makings of stew since my son is coming over tonite and my stew is a favorite.
Stopped to fish and second drift got a solid grab .
Landed it, fished for 15 minutes and then went to the grocery store.

2bob,that's real nice to be able to play with Steel on the way to grocery shop,I'm jealous.
Lucky that home made floating jig head sounds like a good thing to me.I might try that.I don't remember too many problems with hooks straightening but it's been awhile.Remember one time at Oswego hooking into a bunch of Kings with the jig head and they did bend the hook.

Always a good idea to snell the hook to the shank for best pull with the cherry bobber pulled down over the eye.  Best if premade bobber, hook and leader.   A lot quicker to change out in the sub freezing temps as well.

I lost 4 fish and the post I just wrote describing the events surrounding

In the end it all came down to sharp pain in my elbow (tendonitis is back)
every time I set the hook and it seemed like I was more timid with each hookset since the fish came off each time after a shorter time.

Two, I got it bad a few years back from chopping many cords of wood. It got so bad I bought a Spey rod so I could still fly fish. Luckily my son, who's wood I was chopping , bought a wood splitter. Hence the Spey went away. Will say , a 2 handed rod helped..
Hope yours chills out.
Ps:
Maybe Clint can comment . I was told it is related to the wrist.

I know that pain, I had tendonitis and bursitis in elbow and shoulder.  Anti-inflammatory drugs and rest.  I remember taking both butazolidin and prednisone but a long rest was needed for the pain to subside.  A recent flair up in the shoulder was treat with a shot of cortisone.  Good luck.

This has been off and on going for over a decade.
Since I added fly fishing for carp all summer to top off the steel -salmon abuse
EDIT-(The female dog) **** is I live on anti- inflammatories already
The spray pole doesn't work in an elevator shaft.
As it is I have maybe 3 feet of flyline out of the tip top.
Rest is the only real help and I can't see my self not fishing thru April at least a time or 2 each week.
More ibuprofrin and hydro and pray I don't get any bites seems by plan of action.
Just squeezing the cork brings it on.
For a guy as lucky as I am it sucks to be me sometimes.
OK PITTY PARTY ENDS NOW.
