I don't believe you can buy a quality hook to tie on for a nickel anymore. Hook and rest of materials, you've likely got a quarter in anything more complicated than a glo bug.

Yer back.
So did the specks cooperate?
Do tell!
Roller coaster weather, driven off the pond by 9 AM by the heat and sun on Friday, heat stroke trying to bushwack to some stream fishing midday, could not get back on the water for evening until the sun dropped below the trees around 6 PM. I got a couple, friend from ENY did very well for the short time we could be out with 6 in the AM and a few more in the evening. Saturday was perfect until noon, both got many fish, mainly on a caddis pupa, went back to camp for lunch and stood under tarp watching 2 hour monsoon, returned to pond and it cleared, ENY friend and friend from Pulaski who came in on daytrip both got fish, I got best of trip for me, 13" on Royal Coachman wet fly, and a couple of others, lots of missed bites even using a yak paddle instead of oars. Sunday AM, a few bites, but by then I think every fish in the pond had seen the flies a few times and many had felt the sting. Almost no hoppers around, and only a few rises to imitations, muddlers and micky finns did not excite fish, the two we kept had a mass of small clear midge larvae in them, but small patterns did not get action. Mainly caddis pupa, did see some of the big orange brown fall caddis around the lantern at camp. While not the onslaught of hits of last year, still much better fishing than I have had many times in there. And a very relaxing mini vacation, would really like to spend a couple of weeks back in one of these years.
