Ya those Black Flies have been on the warpath on the Big Lake. Last time we went wasn't too bad with the breeze. If there's no wind, forget. They'll chew ya up.
We put a power inverter and box fan in our boat for those days without wind. Works great on keeping the flies off of us.

I had that same helicopter experience on the Yough maybe 15 years ago?  I was wade fishing and it flew right over me, dropped the spray about 50 yards from me for a good 200 yard stretch.  It was one of the most bizarre things that I have ever witnessed.

Are these black flies the same fly everyone complains about in Canada?

Fishing was good.  Caught a pile of small mouth and rock bass.   We got the numbers but the largest might have been 16 inches max.   They were eating grubs and tubes.   Water temp 66° starting in the morning,  got up to 68° by early afternoon.
