Hear that Trevor .
Also an FYI :
General angling regulations are now in effect ( outside of zones) April 15 - Aug -15 which meany you CAN use spinners, spoons or lures that have treble hooks.
With the water high(er) ( dropping as I type ) NOW is the time those will shine.

As well come May - 1 NO weight of any form may be used in the zones and LFZ closes on the 15 th

Read one report that one of the hotels is sold out this upcoming weekend-perhaps its good that stocks are like the old days cause that cant continue, even in decent Steel times.
Last few years some of my 'secret' spots in May are packed when I get there-fish cant stand that for too long even with  the put and take- some natural spawns gotta happen.
Heck in May there used to be nobody around- heck even in April some places had little to no pressure back 'in the day' and a couple of fish a day back then were just fine.
With this pressure those numbers wouldn't stand a chance.
Guess I'm getting old and crabby-----

Hatchery has good numbers in it now. I hope they take eggs from these healthy fish that recently showed up rather than the quarantined fish they've been holding in their ponds. Trev you're 100% right. The best thing to do is find out yourself. With lack of internet hype and spotty conditions this fishery should start stabilizing itself. Most fish being caught are rather large. Have fun when you go Trevor!

I walked a mile of a first class trib tonight after work, saw three dark bucks waiting for hens or moving up through deep water, and one beautiful bright hen that looked at least 15 lbs, had one pull and was late on the set with a black intruder in the water she ran into.  Saw one other fisher in the entire stretch.  There are fish around, and solitude if you get away from the Hollywood spots!

But if I lived where HT is, I would think of nothing but linesides at this point, that opened yesterday, didn't it?

I've  caught  a very large number of stripers on a fly rod from Va. to Maine, and even some inland ones in Tenn., but not a one on the long rod from the Hudson. Gotta cure that. I don't mind fishing herring with HT, though. Soon. Talk to you soon, HT. I want to get your opinion on  a new rod, rather than use my Penn surf stick.  My drive to drive to the river has gone down quite a few notches, probably it for me til the fall. Hope you get one on the swing, Lucky. If I knew those rivers like you, I'd be out there after steel. Instead I know my waters and  settle for hard pulling carp and  pike for now. Not glamorous, but they're fun.  Stripes will soon erase all thought of steel.

Sorry to get off topic but we took that refab boat out for a shakedown yesterday afternoon. Smallies were active and we caught a pig pushing 4 + lbs.
Lots of other boats were out and catching herring. We didn't really target them because I forgot to renew the stupid free marine license, I will today.
So in short , where there is herring , there are linesiders . We will be prepping the Daisy May tomorrow and hopefully splash her down on Sunday for the start of the 2015 striper season .
Yes L-13, db & Clint, if I lived near you guys, I'd be thinking about nothing but lake run trout myself

That's the big difference between folks like us and the 'new generation'.
We are out there DOING and their idea of participation sports is sitting home with a beer and watching someone else do it  on TV.
Good luck to all who are gonna be out DOING.
