Longest run I did on the SR was a huge king when they were first coming back, from the lower part of the staircase pool to the flat below, and would have probably ended up at the wall above the black losing the fish but someone stepped in and netted.  The guy with the zebco and striped pants above his hip boots was vocally impressed to see the green butt bear in the corner of the mouth! Chased a steelhead that was way over 20 (9 jumps) on the Maplewood side of the Genny from the power plant hole to just above Seth Green Island, where he broke the 12 lb mainline on my drift rig, and on the GIS that measures about 3/8 mile.  I was young and foolish then, now I look at that stretch from the other side of the river and all I see is broken legs, and I don't even go down on that side anymore as the path in is known for putting people in casts.

If this weather holds up, you can get your salmon pre-steamed up around the staircases, this is too hot and humid after that wonderful 70's with 50 at night last week.

I will not chase more than 100 yards or so.  I usually will not put myself in any predicament to get wet or slip and fall. Not going to fight current, get deep in the water,   just not worth it.  I will chase\ move if I  can get a bunch of folks back in the water by getting my line from in front of them.

I saw you move, oh, 10 feet maybe on a couple of hogs last fall!  You know how to put the rod to the fish and make it work and tire.  A lot of people who have to chase are not fighting the fish properly when they have the chance.  Not always, I know, but....

I watched a guy "walk the fish" on the UFZ last year.He hooked up across from me and proceeded to let the fish dictate where it wanted to go.First it swam down then it turned and went up and he followed it a couple hundred yards upstream and never "put the wood to it" to try and turn it but then it turned and went down and he just followed along going way down from where he started.I don't know if he ever brought it in 'cause I got busy and lost track.

I consider "walking the fish" when they're strung up and swimming upstream while im heading out and I'm holding on to the yellow nylon rope :)
