August doldrums. Warm water and the most available amount of bait of the year. I still think deeper, darker and current. Still not gonna be on fire.
We hit it right last week, we'll do it again. Maybe we'll strike out on the warm water and hit the shark and steel right.

I did go wading  last night for a few hours. A dozen smallies, couple of Largemouth, rock bass, chubs, bluegill, sunnies, and the elusive perch. lol. I caught a bucketful of hand sized gills in the tail of a pool in the current. They are in the current!  About 95% on the top. FUN!!!  The pic of the young fellow in the boat, who just pulled in the nice smallie, is Wayne's son. He won the pool Tuesday night.  Had to get some chubs. Uglyfish and I are the chub kings. Whacked 'em good last salmon season....  Snuck in along Jailwater's line and fished the tail of Schoolhouse and yep, chubs on the swing.

Your burning spots hopefully we don't have 1000's of fisherman hitting the river and chasing perch. Just missing the pike and carp and you'd have the Hudson River slam so close. Better luck next time

I don't think it is possible to spot burn when it comes to dink perch!  If it was the place where the rapala award winner on the cover of the latest NY Outdoor News claims to have caught 68 stripers in a day, for that spot I might have to take a trip from Rochester to the Hudson.  I've taken up berry picking since the trout streams got too hot for evening fishing, and most of the warmwater spots are producing similar results to what you guys are doing.  They don't fight at all (although the bushes do, especially the now ripening blackberries), but boy do they taste good later, and very little work to clean them! My wife is convinced that my now 10 month old diet has addled my brain!  The fly rod camoflages my real intent and the hippers keep my legs cut free, and most of the places I have found to pick are near to streams.  Its just a shame that the black caps are only a once per season crop, they were definitely an end of June early July treat this year.  Looking forward to Blackberries and dewberries on my upcoming 'Daks trip, I was noting large aggregations of unripe berries when I was up in August, and I just have to hope the bears and the other gleaners didn't beat me to them.

Almost had the carp, had one take in the canal before I went behind the PO.

A beautiful evening to be out wading the shoals on the Hudson. A few nice smallies and an incredible moon rise  made it even more so. Attachments are not available: Download requirements not met Attachments are not available: Download requirements not met

Some scenes from this weeks fish ventures. Foggy at first light this morning. Carp was fish of the week, though Uglyfish put me on a good one that came off, maybe a big largemouth. Saw an eagle this morning and many ospreys this week, including the first flight of a fledgling. Always fun to be on the water, no matter where it is. I used the 7 wt. 10' steelhead rod all week and tied way more steel flies than anything else. The carp even ate an egg fly from my SR egg box. I know Jack is ready, so are Wayne and I. Few more weeks!!!!

I got the new sling pack all packed and ready to go. Didn't realize how big it is. I could probably camp out at Clints rock and fit everything I need in there for the night and then some. Times a ticking, flies a tying it's like when were we kids waiting for Christmas but instead of visions of sugarplums dancing in my head it's chrome steelheads.
