Ya know what's strange ? The advice given from those that never post to this forum except to give their awesome insight on a forum that's here talking about the area year round . Humm ., some good , some worthless . Just my worthless opinion .
Good luck on your adventure tank

BeenThereDoneThat.
Tuna you sound like your suffering from "Mouse Lag" brought on by too much walking.

The only known cure; a full week of fishing the SR, reminiscing with old friends while doing the 12 oz lift exercise to, relieve overworked arm and leg muscles.

Good luck, we'll be rootin' for ya.

Since I'm from Upstate NY area I thought I'd speak up and say something about having a new guy travel an hour away (one way) to find a room his first time going up there to save $30/nt when gas is $2.50/gallon. Especially when he's traveling up I81. It's a death sentence with the number of deer and as tired as you'll be after 8 hrs on the river. I'm looking out for a fellow anglers safety.

Good luck Tank.

Well, Whitaker's is generally sold out months in advance for anytime of Silly season and an old pro like you should know that Columbus Day weekend is generally a three ring circus with all three rings crowded, the peak weekend of the whole year,  Fichy has been posting here for a long time, has camped and stayed at most places around, and I would agree with him for someone coming from Albany and points East, maybe you could find something in Camden, but I would not advise anyone who didn't have accommodations booked to come up to Pulaski on C day weekend, you could spend the entire day driving around and looking.  O course you could also get lucky, the guy that bought Brenda's had a whole wall of names and phone numbers of people who japped out on him when they heard the run wasn't in last fall, but if there are fish, they will be there, and it is definitely dangerous to be driving around  looking for a room after fishing all day, with little chance of finding one.

BTW, its a violation of Encon Law to sell lead sinkers under 1/2 ounce in NYS, and based on sales tax regs, the sale takes place at your end, so the seller who sells them to you could be in some heat (most internet sellers won't sell them to a New York ship to address.)  And its only a matter of time before you won't be able to use them up, either.
Jus' sayin, newbie!

Oh Yea, and Deer densities on the Tug Hill are about the lowest in the state. Something about 18 feet of snow in the winter and deer just doesn't go together.

The 7 or 8 most regular posters on this site have in the neighborhood of 200 collective years on the SR, but we're all just blowin' smoke. Everything you told him except the lead part is in the DEC link I gave him, with more detail.  Jus' sayin agin!

I had no idea which direction he was coming from, but assumed he'd use a map and make his own judgement.   If he needs that much hand holding, he probably needs someone to tie his shoes, so your valuable insight is priceless.  By the way, those of us who travel to the river from the east have been going that way for years, and I know of no one that has hit a deer. We do regular suicide runs, too.  We have FAR more deer in our area.  On the other hand the traffic on 81 around 'cuse reminds me  of the 405 in LA. F'in nuts!  Either way,  flytie, you made your point, though some was  just a rehash of what we've said numerous times. Look at the swap photos like was suggested earlier in the post  and you'll see actual  pics of the flies you named.

Coming up 81 you will not have to deal with the detour--good luck up there its GREAT.
Used to stay in -think its red cedar- next to Whitakers last minute- may have to change rooms daily  for a stay of more than one night last minute but its right there by the river.

Lodging is getting harder and harder to get unless you plan a ways out. I'm up again next week and mid river"old Brenda's" is full during the week. Oswego might have some but it's a chance with everyone there fishing also. I'm off to practice for the next trip on catching bass in the Hudson. Well maybe I'll hook up with a salmon there

Lots of hotels around the Syracuse Airport area just North of Syracuse and only a half hour or less from the SR. on 81.
