Good afternoon all,

I have been tempted more and more each year to venture up past Erie and into New York for some Salmon/Steelhead/Browntrout fishing.

Not asking for any spots but wondering just how far north would one need to venture to hit some of these spots? I had a guy talk to me about Oak Orchard at Cabelas saying its 100x better than the Erie tribs.

Any tips would be great! Feel free to PM as well if you have delicate info, lol.

Tribs stretch across the southern shore and up the eastern shore. Salmon river has the most stable/ semi-year round fishery due to its tailwater flows. Most other tribs are extremely volatile leaving them either too low, too high, or frozen over

I use to fish Erie.  Then I discovered the SR...I travel from Cincinnati.  When I reach Erie, I am only half way there.  There is no better river than the SR.  Erie is a series of ditches compared to the SR and to a lesser extent, Oak Orchard Creek.

The SR is a good river but to say there is nothing like it..... thas a stretch. Its no ditch by any means but it doesnt come close to some of the WILD salmon fisheries on the east coast or anything Alaska has to offer. A man of your means should already know this. Jus say'IN..

They might frown on 1/0 estaz flies on the wild salmon rivers along the east coast!

A couple years back I talked with a retired optometrist while fishing the DSR.  He said he'd fished salmon in Alaska and it cost $1000 per day....And he went on to say that for pure fish catching, the SR was just as good.  I bought a reel from a fly shop in Oregon.  The guy tried to tell me how good the salmon fishing was on the Deshutes.  He said you'll catch probably one per day.  I told him no one from the east coast is coming all the way to fish the Deshutes for one a day when you can catch 10 a day on the SR.   And if your from Brooklyn with a piece of red sponge on your heavily weighted hook, make that 10 by 9am!!!

Snagging ain't fishing. It's snagging, no matter what you and the Brooklyn homeboy call it.
