Glo bugs, estaz flies on #10 egg hook, various nympths, streamers, wooly buggers, and just about anything else. However many times color is the most important so have all types with pink, red, chatreuse, oregan cheese, black, brown, olive.and others.
By the way use floracarbon tippet in 8 -12#,it sinks and does make a difference with visibility. Also use just enough weight to tick the bottom while making a DRAG FREE drift

That was the Master Class.

I also agree with Fichy on the butt, the heavier material gives you a lot better turnover especially with the heavier  (8 or 9) weigh flyline.  I have been using the tag for the shot for 30+ years, but I just don't trim the tag end of the tippet, and put the shot on there.  And I use perfection loops and loop them together a la Lefty Kreh.

Perfection loop. Use amnesia 30 lb butt then a 7' tapered ( bought ) leader, frog hair fluro tippet for steel trout .
Salmon , well I'm cheap and fugal , plus its a bear to see anymore . Many knots cause many problem for me and those fish cause many retires .
I'm not typically nymphing / bouncing salmon so I just forgo the tag/ swivel and direct weight to tippet up close .
Just my way to roll on those species

20LB leaders can be bought off the shelf and I've never had a problem with them....Get good swivels and then just experiment with the fluoro tippet.  Frankly 12 and 15lb should do it.   I sold my Sage One 8 weight as it broke twice on the SR...I am now a devout Loomis guy.  You can buy cheap swivels in Pulaski...I fish bullnose swivels that are a $1 a piece.  To each his own.

I've never had a Spro swivel fail. I doubt I go through 3 dollars worth in a season.

I tied some leaders last winter that I plan to try.  Going to give a tippet ring a try and see if it makes things quicker when I need to replace my tippet.  Its getting tough to tie those blood knots with my vision as poor as it is in my left eye. If the rings don't cut it I'll go with a double surgeon's knot.

In that regards, my reference was to my knot or tying them , not the swivel itself..
I use spro micro for steel to ice fishing and the size #4 welded ring B/B coastlocks on the lake... They aren't no cheapers..
