Was talking to my dad, an old pro wading Pymie for 40+ years.  He told me that he thinks the lake is losing too much cover for the young walleyes to have a chance.

He remembers days when the lake was loaded with stumps and other cover.  Most of it washed to shore or is deteriorating.  He thinks most of those fry don't have many places to hide and become fish food.

As he put it, "Those walleyes are making other fish fat."

I must say, I am impressed with the level of knowledge in the field of Ichthyology (study of fish) displayed in this thread. Some very well researched support material and an overall intelligent insight on the topic. This gives me some hope for our future and the future of our aquatic resources.

With the utmost sincerity;

Kudos gentlemen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stocking at night would be a good option, depending on how long those fingerlings stay on the surface.

I had a fellow that has a camp at Pymy tell me they haven't had a restocking program for several years.  Also the Amish fish the @#%*& out of the place plus Wilhelm, and they keep every dink they reel in!!!!  Same as huntin', kill it--clean it--eat it.

I have nothing against Amish but I do find it funny they are not aloud to use a car but can rent boats with motors and use them. whould that not as well be against thier teachings?

I ask someone that same question at Mosquito last year and their answer was that "some of the Amish don't use anything with rubber tires" so as long as someone drives them and their boat to the lake, they are permitted to fish from a boat with a motor.

I agree, stocking Hybrid Striped Bass would help control the shad, keeping their numbers in check.  You don't run any risks of the wipers over taking the lake since they cannot reproduce.

Thanks MUSKYMASTR.   That's good info to know.  As far as the Amish, enough said.  Everybody is entitled to their own opinnion, so Ill drop that subject before I hurt any feelings.  Besides that this is a fishing forum, not a public debate.  Appoligize to anyone affended

Say what you want about the amish, but I've seen plenty of "English" that keep every little dink they catch as well.
