I'm not sure if any or all of you will remember this spot. It's been gone for 5-10 years now and i just haven't been able to get as excited to go fishing since...

On the PA side and on same road that takes you over the causeway at Pymatuning (maybe 2 miles before the lake...right before train tracks) there used to be this spot that we called the swamps. I think the locals/game commission called it the canal. It was miles of continuous, fish-able shoreline...lots of weeds at certain points....lots of lily pads at other points...tree stumps...etc. There were some huge bass in there. I used to love just walking the shore line tossing senkos and frogs. Probably around 5 years ago, the dam broke and it mostly drained. The rumor was that a guy who just moved to the area trapped the beavers.

Does anyone know of any spots kind of like that?...lots of shoreline...lots of cover (weeds, pads, trees)...lots of bass?

I'm jones'ing to get back to fishing like i used to, but all of my old spots have dried up or disappeared. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Dunno how far u wanna drive but Buzzard Swamp is like that. Can't drive in, gotta go on foot or bike but lots of ponds an lakes with different vegetation and trees. Been a few years since I've gone but used to go often an always did well bass fishing. Only reason I started was they got a 10 lber out of there like 15 years ago an I fished it off an on ever since

It's funny that you mentioned Buzzard Swamp. My cousin mentioned it maybe an hour after I made that post yesterday. It's definitely on my list!

It's definitely a cool place. I think there's 11 or 12 miles of trail there an it's a mile or more walk to get to where u can start to fish so you dont see a lot of people there. Like I said, it's been a couple years since I've gone so could have changed, but a busy day was seeing 6-8 people on a Saturday. I've gone during the week an have fished all day an never see another person. It was worth it just for that haha.

Located outside of Marienville. South east I think. My advice on that swamp.....bring a bike ! That is a long walk depending on where you park. An uncle of mine came up a few years back and we hit that swamp......and walked about 10 miles. Should have packed light. We didn't set the world on fire fishing, but caught a few. It was confusing where you could fish and what was restricted.....

The swamp out Conneaut lake (Conneaut marsh/Geneva swamp) has a lot of the same type of cover. I take my kayak behind the winery a few times a year and paddle back towards the old bridge (might be a dam that has broken down ?). Some decent water and have caught some pike and large bass there. The warmouth are loaded in there as well, and will take big baits. A lot of water there that no one fishes.

Also the Geneva swamp (everyone knows about it). Down by I-79.

Thanks never heard of or fished it. I'm familiar with Conneaut marsh and Geneva Swamp. Not much fishing time on them either. Hartstown Swamp was a favorite of mine years back when I had a small flat bottom we rowed. Lots of Warmouths , and smaller panfish also there. Bass were around but not a lot of big ones. Seems they keep the water level much lower now then years ago so I would say fishing is not as good plus more thicker vegetation.

Yeah, since they drained it back a long time ago, Hartstown swamp never quite came back up to par. Old man Loutzenhiser used to let me cross his gate and fish down the tracks (long time ago). It has some huge carp in it still.....

If you can get a canoe or kayak past the weeds on the south end of Crystal lake......some big fish hiding out in that swampy land.

Yea I spent many a day on Hartstown Swamp both fishing and duck hunting over the years. Stayed mostly on the lower end off of Pine Road the last few land dikes. Fishing was good but mostly smaller stuff. Bass ,Crappie ,Pike were around but never any really big ones.

Did hear of an 7lb. Largemouth being caught back then. Shot many ducks there mostly Woodies & Mallards. I know they lowered it years ago and never heard much more about it...too bad!

Always enjoyed the swamp atmosphere with old dead trees ,brush, and Lilly pads.

I think Pitt fan is talking about the canal way up off of Canal Rd. Never fished it so I'm not sure.

I remember the Fish Commish use to run a floating weed cutting machine in the upper Hartstown area years ago, the section across from Crystal Lake Bar. Would cut a pretty wide section out and kind of made open areas for canoes and stuff to get up through the swamp. I have know idea if they do that anymore or even if they chop water vegetation up anywhere.
