I saw a post on another board about the dead carp all over the lake. Is this true? If so, what is the cause?

Went for a boat ride last Saturday, saw maybe a dozen dead carp.
My wife took her sister and niece to the spillway to see the carp and they were not there.
 
Don't know the reason for either one, but suspect the lack of carp at the spillway was low oxygen content in the water as there was no water flow from the upper lake.

I thought carp could come to the surface and gulp oxygen if needed.

Coy Herpes Virus? Seems a bit early. My limited understanding of the virus is it occurs in the spring spawning season when carp come in direct contact one another or in the fall when water temps drop into the mid-60's. The virus is introduced into waterways when coy ponds flood or infected coy are released. Its rather devastating to the carp population. Years back I spent a week on Chautauqua Lake and dead carp numbering in the thousand were floating. There were so many and the smell was so bad that dead carp were being removed and hauled away in dump trucks.    

Hey D-Nymph that was hilarious about the gluten free dough balls...I think they are dying because of the 6 month old Town Talk bread the touristos have been throwing in there for the past 50 yrs..

They may be trying chemicals to see if they can find something to help eradicate the bighead carp before they get this far. Perfect lake to use isn't it?

There is no Carp shortage on Pymy....... for sure ! 

Carp, Catfish, Crick Chubs, Trout all the same. I still can't catch them stupid fish.😯
