Does anyone know if French is high and muddy right now (Friday the 24th)?  I figure with all the rain we got this week it may be high and stained.  The Utica gauge shows its about 1.5' higher than it was at the beginning of the week, but i'm not sure how that translates into heavy current or murk.  Any insight/current observations would be appreciated...

Meadville looked low but had some color. 1.5 higher than the beginning of the week doesn’t mean a whole lot as last week the creek was extremely low.

I dropped down RT 19 from Erie today passing through Cambridge Springs, Venango and Saegerstown the crik looked stained and maybe a bit fast but definitely not high.  Go get em!!

Tight lines and good times on the mighty pristine French Creek.

Thanks BTDT!

I'll hope it comes down just a bit more by tomorrow morning and clears a tad.  I like a little clarity for spinners.  Water temps have been dipping into the upper 60s too - good time to hit a creek.

As a follow up, I'd like to thank everyone for their help.  I went out tossing musky baits and ended up catching a 29" walleye on a 6" topwater lure.  NOT what I was expecting when the surface water blew up and the reel starting ripping.  Either way...fun times!

First off, congrats on the fish !! That is a good one from French creek.

Without getting specific.

How was the clarity ? Does it seem like the water is cooling down ?? Last time I waded FC, the fish I was catching were already 1/2 way cooked. I got a stretch of water I want to kayak down, but just seems like the water is still too warm. I should probably just get off my rear and take a drive to the creek to see first hand......being I live less than 1/4 mile from it. I see it was down to 2.5 feet, that is usually doable.

Bass,

I haven't been since Saturday, however the water had some murk to it at the time.  There were nice clear holes around islands, but the main rifles still were carrying a fair amount of sediment in the water column.  Temp seemed fine, as I said, the USGS temps for last week showed night time dips in the 60's, but the temp graph for Cambridge Springs showed a high point of 79 on August 29th. However, its down to 74 today, so its falling.  We need some cold nights to fire up the fish.
