Salmon Season Drought Water levels????? What effect could a "possible" low water flow on the Salmon River NY during Salmon Season have on YOUR fish?
Over 25 years, I've fished 2 entire Salmon Seasons in below normal "drought' water flow levels on the Salmon River, NY.
1 yr. - Lower river, fish came thru as usual. Another Yr. - Up river, fish came thru as usual.
Normally, low water (within reason) wont stop their naturally ingrained instinctive behavior to run the river to lay eggs and reproduce.
I'd swim thru a trickle of water myself, for a good women! Hows about you? :) YOUR Current Salmon River NY Fishing Report's: Mostly Bass with some Brown Trout around. There is a small chance presently, that you could hit a Trophy Atlantic Salmon in the river!
Hit quite a few good size (2lb+) Bass everywhere from 2A all the way up to Trestle. Using a center pin and spinning rod.
An expert S.R. angler friend did ok while fishing below 2A using a fly rod, swinging streamers.
On the surface, using Hornberg and Quill Gordon's, size 10-12.
Caught 1 Atlantic Salmon - 18 inches. 2 Browns at 14-16 inches. 3 Bass and lost the 2 BIGGEST fish after an approx. 2 minute fight.
(He couldn't tell what they were)
Water on the Salmon River is at a low flow of approx. 185cfs.
If you lived locally or were not traveling far. The Salmon River might be a fun fishing option for you this summer.
Never know, FISH ON!
