I purchased an G. Loomis NRX in 9ft, 11 wt, for Florida tarpon this June.  I read that guys are using this same rig for Alaskan salmon.  I know the kings in the SR are quite a bit smaller, but the swing weight of this saltwater NRX is very manageable.  There were times last year, my 8 weight NRX felt a bit light with the freshies down at the spring hole in the DSR.  At the risk of using a sledge hammer to kill a housefly, I might breakout the 11wt to see how well it works.  Anyone else using heavy fly gear for the kings?

My first fly rig on the SR was a 10 wt Ugly Stick with a Martin reel.
Likely the first for many -back in the 80s.
AS time went on went to 9 wt now enjoy an 8 wt switch.
Even with the 8 gotta break off some upper freshies in the heavy water heading down fast lol.
Havent been to DSR in a very long time but do recall they can be quite feisty when right from the lake.
Being a POS outa stater again, with more limited fishing time may well be down there in the future, have wondered what weight to bring.
Actually look forward to another DSR trip.
Guess it depends on water conditions, for the most part.
