Your going to need more popcorn the Niagara River Show is on ....LOL !  This is a must on every fishermen's future hit list. Salmon , Steelhead , and Lakers roam these turbulent strong current waters. I've fished the mighty Niagara on and off for over 30 season's and introduced many friends to this wide open river. Once again I prefer to fish the shorelines but also have caught many fish from boats . It's truly an accomplishment to land these powerful fish from this Majestic Emerald River.

She's telling you the truth you need to use caution when boating the Niagara. Even shore fishing one must use serious caution too. Those strong currents at the Devil's Hole area are not for beginners and should be avoided. The Lewiston Drift area is strong also but much less then the power plant areas. Below Lewiston the current slows down somewhat to the mouth or Coast Guard area . The Bar or mouth flow is the hot boating area. It's usually busy with boats and provides plenty of fishing action when the bite is on. Usually Lakers and Salmon stage at the "Bar" area before running the river. Boaters have capsized and drown in the Lower Niagara in the past so it's only proper to use caution.         The Bar

Drifting the current and hooking up. Lots of Lakers feeding.

Niagara has some nice size Lakers too ! We release all.

Browns also stage at the mouth.

Even Walleye show up once in awhile

More of the Niagara River fishing.............Lewiston N.Y. , Art Park area. Shore or boat the Niagara has a good mix of fishing year round. Boat fishing is easier and not as challenging as the shoreline. River clarity is controlled by Lake Erie winds. Light winds clear emerald river, strong winds expect cloudy green pea soup color, and head elsewhere. Snags galore, it's bottom is lined with tons of rocks and boulders and they are usually unforgiving . Learn to adjust and barely tap that bottom and you will catch fish. It's a hike down into the Devil's Hole area weather you walk the power plant road or take the stone steps down. The hike or climb out is much worse it's steep and will wear you out. I'm too old for that area now, but Art Park is still shore fishable. Back in the day we hiked that gorge area twice a day to fish both morning and evening......ah..... those days are long gone !! No sight seeing fishing here, plus strong wide current flows give the fish total control of the battle and many break free. It's no doubt the ultimate test in river sport fishing ! Try it someday..... boat or shore......it's awesome fishing.

Notice how many big split shots on

Hope all are enjoying these fishing photos up next is " Cold weather fishing days on the Niagara " I don't ice fish but these are some cold snowy days. There is a fine line between insanity and the love of the sport of fishing! I know we all have probably crossed over that several times in our lives. We fished the Niagara, Spring , Fall, and Winter over the years and we learned all tactics on our own. We never chartered or had any direct connections in N.Y. we basically put the time in with trial and error fishing. We grew up in the Shenango Lake area and still live here so the Niagara was a special challenge. One thing about traveling away on fishing trips the weather is the major factor that we have no control of, but sometimes it works out !
