Hope they don't price me out in 5 years.. And Or I still have a friend or 2 in town..
I've been looking at the real estate ads lately, and while the prices are not climbing drastically around there, the taxes are getting outrageous!
L-13, prices are slowly climbing, but yes property taxes are soring. Yet, with some properties there is no rhyme or reason to the annual taxes on either end of the spectrum. I suggest looking in to properties that have old structures. They tend to be more lenient (oops should I edit this post..lol). But realize, people are slowly buying up these properties with such high tax amounts, and in a decade you will look back and say wow... that's my assumption. Look at orange County down state ny... what used to be rolling Farm fields are now 3-5 acre lots with McMansions and 15k annual tax bills... not saying that will happen full blown here but it's coming. The difference with this area is the tourist attraction. And a lot of tourists have money. And many are looking to invest in the area rather than pay the motels and hotels...
Ohhh the times, they are a changin'
Edit: but I do feel very strongly that the area will preserve it's north country heritage and wide open spaces
