Nice article in to-days Greensburg Tribune Review on Donegal's planned opening for the up-coming Trout season. Will be catch & release for everything except Trout for the first couple of years to try & get the other species started. Good time now to go out & see where they put structure in & take some picts. All of the vegetation that has grown up will give anglers headaches for the first few years, but at least it's back if it passes the planned tests. Now the deer that have taken up residents there have to move again.  sam

If I was a couple of years younger I would be out there walking around before the lake refills marking a lot of places on a gps.  Doubt at my age it would ever help.  Gotta be at least 3 years or so before decent numbers of nice size fish re-appear.  Sure should be a nice lake again for the younger generations in the future.  Ditto for Somerset, which is at least 1 full year behind Donegal in the repair business

They also had a mention of the new rules on the fish commission web site under southwest area reports in the last 2 weeks or so

Dave did you go watch any of the fish harvest out of Somerset? Just wondering how that looked?

Yes' I was there and watched almost the whole thing.  I could not believe the number of walleyes that came out of there.  The largest fish I saw was a muskie that I believe was around 48 inches long.  It got trapped in the mud and had a heck of a time getting loose and the PFC had no way to get to it as there was not enough water left for a boat, and there was no way any man could get thru the mud.

The muskie finally was able to get free and got into the flow of fast water running under the breast.  A couple of the PFC men were able to net it before it passed thru.  I have no idea if it survived but I hope so.  The PFC did all they could do to save as many sportfish as possible.

Carp were'n so lucky.

Too bad they didn't dredge the lake or add any fish habitat structure. I hope they stock catfish, they would probably thrive with all the vegetation that's grown up over the past few yrs.

I honestly didn't notice any channel cats come out of Somerset but I'm sure they were there.
