I know a guy who harvested a doe last year at 83 with his x-bow. He is encouraging me to skip the bow all together, but I want to try it for targets, and the xbow bolts tear up the 3 d targets, and the bolts can be very difficult to get out of the targets, so a lot of the 3D tournies don't even allow the xbow. Not an issue this year, if I do get out it will be with a shotgun, even up in the Northern zone.
There is a ton of State Land around P-Town, but it is close enough to Watertown, Syracuse, Rome and Utica, that it draws a fair number of hunters, even Binghamton is not that far during the early season up North, with 81. That said, there are a whole bunch of new spots near the river, with the change of land ownership from easement which allowed fishing to "fee in title," at least for bow. Bad for fishing, but I'll likely start sporting a fire orange stocking cap this November while I'm walking to spots for steel!
