Good luck out there today! I am stuck at work...But summer schedule starting soon, so will be fishing Erie soon enough....though we have to go get the boat from a marina in southern Maryland this weekend or next, since it spent the winter there.

gave it a go from 6am till 9:30am. Wrong tide , incoming.
We only caught catfish and couldn't catch bait. Figured it was time to come home for a while and catch up on chores. Mowing for first time this year and it sucks..
Hope to get back on the river tonight.

Gotta take today off from fishing. I can say, the land won't stop swaying.
Here are my thoughts so far and my dislike of the slot size.
We have put 15 legal size stripers in the cooler. Legal means 18-28" OR over 40".
The fish we been catching are mostly in the 20-27" range. Same for others I know.
We keep 25-28" fish and releasing a lot of smaller or slightly over the 28" Mark.
Not seeing the number of slot fish that we did 2 years ago. Sadly back then, we caught a LOT of 32-38" fish that had to be released and seen many floaters coming down the river.
Personally, I'd like the state to implement a tag system of 5 fish each. You tag 5 anytime you want but once you use your fifth tag, your outta the game. No tag, no fishing.
I prefer, 2 or 3 hefty stripers to filet, rather than 15, smaller ones.

All that said, so far I'm seeing a lack of the spawning size stripers so something is a miss.

The ocean temps were and are 2 weeks behind. They came in late, so you may not have seen the main herd yet. By this time last year I had already caught a bunch, my first trip next week is making me nervous that I'm going too early. Of course, north of Boston is different, but this spring/winter dragged pretty bad.  I hope not all is amiss. The biologists I fish for  found very large amounts of one and two year old stripers   from the Hudson traveling as far as Maine  last year.  Good sign.  Normally they go no further than L.I. and Cape May.  The slot limit either worked or there was an anomaly in the amounts of spawners. Jury is still out. More will be coming over the rail, you'll get some cows. I do like your tag idea- thanks for  sharing your observations.
