I think for someone of my generation and earlier, that word connotes "mafia affiliation", except when it is used among family and friends. I haven't the vaguest clue what the other reference is.  I always thought some of the worse perps on the river were the Russians, but they're getting a bad rap all over the place.  I would put money on the fact TB  had training  in biased language from his supervisory work in LE. To me, it wasn't intentionally inflammatory, just perhaps using a word where you didn't know the full meaning.
On the other hand , (see, I could have used OTOH, but am so old school, I still type it out lonnnnng) it's good to hear the better steel report and pretty much firms up a Nov. visit to the river for me. I did get stripers on the coast yesterday, but it IS winding down and a chill wind off the water reminds of coming snow mixed with the blowing sand.  I might've had a hook-up or two in the river, but  regrets  just fuel the drive for the next trip.

I now see how the game game is played.  Let's reduce it political affiliation, name calling and rationalization that it's okay because I'm married to one or my friend didn't take umbrage.  You could have used any adjective to describe those you observed or perhaps not.  Limitations are a terrible thing especially when your not intelligent enough to know the difference.

And you are not intelligent enough to know that your perception is what you are imposing on my reality, you are the one walking around with all the racist baggage.  Perhaps you use it as a derogatory slur to a nationality, I used a reference to the character above as a derogatory slur toward snaggers of fish.  Also I used a proper noun derived from a movie, no adjective there. Did I cut a little too near to the bone, does reference to steelhead snaggers in unflattering ways make you too uncomfortable, maybe feel like you are the victim of the attack, maybe even justifiably in others eyes?  Isn't your handle derived from an unflattering term applied in a disparaging way to economically disadvantaged people  who happen to be out of work and maybe living on the streets, but "sanctified" with a reference to a fish?.  Shame, Shame, Oh great Cromagnon!

come on L, give it up already. I also don't know of the Mario bro's verbiage and only the latter. Just because it doesn't bother some , that doesn't make it appropriate. There is a better term you could have used and its meaning , SNAGGER.
I know Gerry and have fished and hunted with the man. To try and now formulate ones dislike of the term used, it's foolish to try and twist this into someone being one , a SNAGGER, in which he surly isn't.
Save that junk for another website in which there is no censorship , or is there ? .

Thanks for the report and I enjoy reading your posts (sometimes , lol) lets just not get to carried away and stuck on back and forth argumentative comment. It's done and over for all intended purpose of this topic. If you guys can't agree, then lets just agree to disagree and move on.

We live in a day and age where it's tough to decipher what's derogatory and what's not... I'm sure l13's comment was light hearted and unintentional, but it's clear to see that the actual line is quite a grey area on what's acceptable and what's not.

Watch the flow gauges and hit the river once it hit's about 1200 at pineville Mr. RT ;)

Yes Bear, but I was fishing, provided a useful report, and got lambasted (hopefully I didn't culturally appropriate some offensive term there!).  Last time I provide any useful in formation here!

Water is too big for me for a while.
Lucky didn't mean to insult anyone but the snaggers--
He gives great, insightful, educated reports.

If that's how you really need to feel about things Mr 13, it's sad. While i thought you were a grown man , it seems i was mistaken. If you choose to take your ball to another court to provoke a rise then so be it , dribble away. As you can clearly see since the toilet was flushed there is no moderation and none needed only reasonable respect for others.
While somethings in life I will truly miss, yours is not one of them.

*******!

You call it soda in Albany we call it pop down here.  I took a rasher, undeserved, I think, and you jumped in on top of it.  I took a long breather from the Inturdnet once before, but was convinced that I offered valuable information, and returned, only to witness "the purges" here.  Now on the other site I am watching a bunch of posers pretend they are sportsmen and calling them out (as I suspect you are also), and getting the same type of censorship these folks originally decried so loudly when it was the old Salmon Crazy site spreading the manure. In light of that , the fish are generally in the water, and they are generally biting on the end of Randy Jones' line, just ask him.
