saw this in the post-gazette friday:

Connoquenessing Creek (Butler County): Matt Weber of Ellwood City released a 51-inch, 41-pound muskie on a Crane bait Wednesday evening.

say what?  i know its a larger creek but cant imagine that size of a fish in there.  would love to see a pic...i would assume this was an allegheny river fish that ran up the creek to spawn...if it goes into the river i really dont know.  what a fish...

alright found a map of the creek it does not go into the allegheny it appears to originate from lake oneida and goes toward the beaver river.  the map i show does not show it connecting all the way to the river however, but the map may be innacurate.  thats impressive for a trophy like that to be in that system.

there are definitely muskies and northerns in the creek.

not questioning the catch, however, would like to see a picture. Deborah Weisberg will print anything in the post-gazette. she calls around to bait shops weekly to get reports and people call into her. if you tell her you caught something she'll print it.

I've seen plenty of Muskies/pike in that creek, but nothing anywhere that big.  That's awesome if it's true! I had one so close that it splashed me last year while I was night fishing in the shallows.  When I hit it with the light, I would probably guess it to be around three feet.   I guess you really never know what you're going to catch.

I've caught musky (up to 36 ") in the connie. the largest I know of was 40+ inches.
Howard Wagner (The Fish Education Center near Hereford Manor) has caught bigger ones than I from the creek.

I know Matt Webber pretty well, I worked with him for over 10 years and fished with him also.He also build some really good custom rods and does repair work too.  He is a staright up guy, I'm sure he caught the fish. I no longer work with him and haven't talked to him since December, but he catches plenty of nice sized local muskies, thats all he fishes for !!! He is friends with Howard Wagoner too, probably the best muskie fisherman/guide in western pa. So you can bet thats its true !

Been to creek many times.  Not deniing fish was caught at 51", But 41lbs is almost unbeleivable.  Would have to see picture for this story to hold water.
