With the Full Moon thought I would try for a big Brownie on top with a mouse pattern last night.
Fished for about 3 hours and had only one taker. Mabee a 20 inch fish as I found out it is nie impossible to net fish in the dark. Next time headlamp will be on my head.

Couple questions for you more experienced anglers.

Do you dress your mouse with any floatant (gink, frog's butt) or does the deer hair stay floatable without ?

Do you fish them mostly along the shore or is the whole river up for grabs ?

Will they work in the daytime ??

Bings if you think about it the mouse isnt going to ride on top of the water it would ride in and out of the water, this is where I think most mouse patterns are flawed. Here is a video for you to check out, maybe inspire you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4pOOMpFW_8 . And here is some mouse fly inspiration http://www.drakemag.com/index.php?option=com_jfusion&Itemid=2&jfile=viewtopic.php&f=6&t=13942&hilit=mouse&start=210#p311750

i spent sat night mousing WAY north in michigan with the full moon
we each raised fish with none to hand

here are some patterns

from what i understand... no moon is best for mousing up big fish... or at least could cover
we could see bottom with no headlamps
down and across like any other swung fly

don't fish with the light on... only use it for tying or finding your next step
a red light works well for keeping your "night eyes"

Thanks for the patterns and tips guys.
Didn't realize there were different ties for fishing them dry or wet. Mine are all stacked deer hair and ride quite high in the water.
Will tie up a few that ride lower in the water on the back end..

Will have to try that new moon in a couple weeks....

Cool video too, thanks.....

Got to try out some of those new patterns last night.
The Count Chocula and the Dirty Rat worked great.
Only managed one really nice Smallie, but I got run off by the storm after an hour and a half.

Standing in the river in the dark with a graphite rod and the lightning hammering sent me running for the truck...
