The fish bite was slow last night on Wilhelm.  My friend and I only caught a crappie and small sized largemouth between us.  We were loading our boat back onto the trailer at 10 P.M.  Two anglers coming into the dock after us stated they caught a huge 9 pound walleye and a largemouth bass.  After hearing all of the stories on Lake Wilhelm about how large the walleye are getting we had to see it for ourselves.  I am not sure if it was a 9lb walleye, but it was 22-25 inches in length and the mouth was open nearly the diameter of a baseball.  He stated there is a sunken road bed at the launch we were at and he caught it off of a deep diving crankbait in 6' of water at 4PM.

There is no doubt about it.  There are huge walleye in Lake Wilhelm.

Anybody know the exact location of the sunken road bed at launch 1?

3 mph is prop wash behind your boat, if you think your going slow, go slower.  With this heat and much past thier prime (spawn) the walleye will eat but it isn't because they have too.  Slow!  I would bottom bounce live bait two ways here three way with crawlers, and a 1/4oz to 3/8oz jig or egg sink w/a shiner, large fathead, 3-5" sucker, trying to stay as light as I could.  Watch your rod you want tick...nothing.....tick......nothing.....tick, with some practice you will get this down pat.  keep your line tight.

The guy who caught the walleye emailed the pittsburgh post gazette. This was in the paper on 8/5/11

Lake Wilhelm (Mercer County): A few walleyes were boated on crawler harnesses in 12-14 feet. Hunter Cascio of Greenville boated a 28-inch, 6-pound 4-ounce walleye.

I'm sure that ol' colty catches a stringer full of 6 #'ers everytime he goes out.
