To those experience Muskie fishermen I am looking to do a camping trip on Oct 1st at pyma to give my self a chance at the beasts. I do have the gear as in pole, line, and lures. Want to know where to go in pyma and how deep and in october what colors are good or dose it matter. I am using six inch repala stick baits. I want to give my self a chance to get one muskie small or big so I don't want to go to big. I do understand at that time of year you want BIG bait for them to get themselves fat for winter but I have never caught one so I will take what ever size I can. I will be using a kayak to troll with and when not trolling I will be casting to the banks of shore and fish the bottom with chicken live for some cats. I know the work you have to put into muskie but want to give my self a chance to caught other things also. I am going to start out Saturday and fish all through the night into Sunday morning.

Nightfishing from a kayak in October sounds more difficult than catching a musky to me.

Its not difficult at all as long as you have the right gear. Alot more people than you know do the whole kayak fishing and kayak night fishing.

It's a smaller lake, also known as a "numbers" lake. Might give you a better shot. Pyma has not been giving up her muskies much this year.

I kayak at night for muskies but wouldn't do it in daylight in strong wind. I suggest larger loud lures. Six " Rapalas will make you more likely to catch walleyes which I'll never complain about but fall is a great time to think big. The easiest way to catch a muskie is no breaks and forget about other species.
Pymie traffic at night may make you consider a battery powered light on a pole mounted to the back. Scotty makes one. You are legal with a flashlight or headlamp in PA (not sure about Ohio) flashed at a boat to indicate you are unpowered. I'll bet Buck knows this but I'm just cutting others off at the chase.
