i actually caught a nice size cat a couple of weeks ago, and it had a 8 inch walleye in it's belly. so, not only are they going to compete for food, the walleye may suffer in other ways too.

Not sure what you mean by "big cats" bings but over the last couple years it seems that catching ones in the 24"+ range hasn't been hard to do. I've only caught them fishing from shore on the causeway though.

Anything over 2 ft is a decent cat to me.

How big do Channel cats get ??

State record is over 35 pounds with the biggest caught in 2010 was nearly 20 pounds....and to answer the question properly with my opinion I needed to know what your definition of a "big cat" was.  I'd agree with you anything over 2 ft is decent.

bings, the red river in northern minnesota and into canada regularly produces channel cats of 30 pounds or more. a 10 pounder here is considered a big fish.

30" /10# is decent
35ish /20# is the Big trophy (perhaps a once in a life fish, unless you know what your doing)

a 23-25" cat (5#), while a pretty nice fight is a pretty ordinary-sized cat.

so, I don't know. while Big waterways hold more big cats, I imagine that there are lots of places (including pymy) that hold the occasional 20# cat. I've personally seen cats that approach this size on an ordinary night out of Erie.
