Gonna be in Meadville Saturday, and May have some time to fish French for a few hours. Never fished it before.

Just wondering what a reasonable/safe reading on the USGS in Meadville or Utica is for some wading or bank fishing.

I’ve heard that it’s deep in places and that there can be sudden drop offs and undercut banks so I’m going with that in mind.

Its not as high as the Allegheny right now but still fairly high. With drier weather until then should come down some. Looked fishable today but I prefer it lower to enjoy wading and fishing. Be careful it is much more dangerous when its up.

It can be really ripping even when it's not super high. If you wade, know the under structure before you cross. The creek has some swift under currents that can sweep you off your feet. I prefer to not use waders and just some old pants and boots.

Thanks guys. This is definitely the time of year for wet wading.

To answer your original question, around 2' or under at the Utica gauge is best for wading but you need to take water clarity into consideration.  After hard rains. farm run offs can create very brown water.  Not the best for wading at any level.
