Got in with a friend and my youngest son about 11 am Monday to clouds and sprinkles.
Hit upriver area I like and found Kings all afternoon. A mix of runners and residents.
Tuesday was nice and partly sunny and we went to the same spot with Kings all day long.
Wed- same spot -cloudy and sprinkles with Kings till bout 10 am and then it slowed quite a bit but some still there.
It was new and old Kings for 3 days but on Wed Am Steel came in nicely as well.
Not a huge run by any means but about the best I have seen there in a few years -fish around us most all the time.
That said for most of the river there didnt seem to be the kind of fishing we enjoyed according to dinner talk from others.
The somewhat limited run this year has pretty much run its course barring a miracle.
Tues evening trip to see the estuary found No fisherfolks whatsoever and only one fish surfaced far out.
Compared to past Mid Oct trips seemed fewer guys fishing and the lots only had a dozen or two cars each day--- including a drive through the ballpark ( was very surprised)
Boats were ganged up 3 to 4 at a time in some small holes upriver with clients lined up on shore casting a way- kinda said IMHO the fish were up top and the guides were making the most of the upper float.
Actually a really GREAT trip. Feel we caught a pod of spread out runners ( by pure luck) that lasted a day or two mixed with the fish already there.
VERY few beds sighted and only two were active --VERY VERY few deads around compared to any normal year.
Think we hit it just about as well as possible for this season.
Woulda been happy with what we had even in a great season -so it was really special- not my normal luck -LOL.

Twobob was up, too bad you didn't cross paths.  I would have been but I pulled my left shoulder, hoping to intersect with the chromers next week.

Thanks for the report. I'd like to have been there this week, but no go. End of month for sure for 3 days.  I'll be so off my game, I doubt I could land a steel.

Fichy--Only saw one or two Steel on the first two days.
The pod on the last day was far more numerous and came in for a couple of hours mixed with Kings.
Hope it signals a change in their population - buttt coulda just been a pod.
We will see as the season goes on but it seems time, in the general ebb and flow, for their numbers to begin an upswing.
They all seemed to be around the 5 to 8 pound range.

Just got home from my trip, was there Tues thru Friday.Fished the fly stretches entire time.As said lots of Kings with a few Ho's mixed in.Very few Steel up there and I did n't see any personally but talked to a few that said they saw a few. From what I saw and heard there are quite a few down river.DSR reports are saying good Steel fishing down there.
Anyway I had a good time hooking up on the Salmon and had some epic battles but did n't land many, but I could care less if I land them, its the fight I go for and I had  my fill of thatI did see a lot of spawning happening.

My group hooked into several steelhead over columbus day weekend down on the DSR.  One guy only caught steelhead over a two day stretch.  I only saw one coho caught over 4 days.  Kings and steelhead were the primary species.

Glad it was a positive trip, Jack. Thanks to you and RG for the reports. Hopefully I'll have one after next weekend. I hate to go on weekends, but at least I have part of Monday thrown in.

Feel the same way about catching Kings. Not how many I beach ( no net) but  just enjoy the fight. No more chasing them up and down- just play them and if they head on down  too hard--SNAP

Interestingly yesterday DSR reports very fresh bright Kings coming in and says there has been no  King 'big run' as yet this year. Figured that meant  a bigun on a given day.
My  perception throughout the season has been one of a bunch of nice pushes but never a HOT day. Generally its over now except for some stragglers  for a few weeks- some years more than others- but ----who knows.

Reporting up there has come a long way from the old' every day is spectacular and epic' kind of trolling reports and frankly I now believe them when they report.
Yes- IMHO -no real epic hard hours long extravaganza  has happened but the constant pushes add up too.
Butt -do the silly fishes have a late trick up their sleeve this time ??  lol.

Got a couple bright silver kings in altmar this past weekend, so it seems like the run has been nicely spread out, it would be great if that trend continued, but it could go right back to the big blow up run and then dead fish stinking up the river
