From the article:
In addition to demonstrating “below threshold,” Willow was able to perform a computation in under five minutes that would take Frontier, currently considered the world’s fastest supercomputer, 10 septillion years to solve. The assessment of Willow’s performance compared to Frontier “was based on conservative assumptions,” Neven said.

Human race is doomed...."Skynet" is likely much closer than we think, once they start combining AI and quantum computing.

I wonder what this would do to crypto currency mining?

Well we all gotta go sooner or later. May as well try and make the best of it while we’re still vertical and haven’t assumed room temperature. I was really looking forward to Christmas.🎄
I’m heading out to get some ice cream before it’s too late ⏰

As the great philosopher Tyrus once said of the computer/machine takeover of man — “Cup of water.”

This is a big step.

I recently got back from an industrial automation convention in Anaheim.  AI was a huge topic, and has infiltrated so many products (some make more sense than others), but most terrifying, robotics.

...and we wrote it all down as the progress of man.

I have been to a number of conferences that included AI topics, most of the were about the caution of how often AI got it wrong because it was either coded in a certain slant or it wanted to find the answers that the inquirer wanted based on the way the prompt questions were asked — such as making up out of whole cloth precedence cases (law); changing voice transcription (medical); and creating hallucination (I guess that is the technical term, not mine) references for scholarly works that don’t actually exist.

Like most things its only as reliable as the person who makes it.

What they've always said about computers: Garbage in, garbage out. Fallible people still have to program them.
