Last year looked exactly like this upcoming season. The river was ice free and temperatures steadily increasing with not much northern snow melt.
Last season was very, very strange as things were looking great.
Herring were in small waves making live bait fishing hit and miss. If a wave of herring came through you caught striper but the waves were few and far between.
The upper river never really loaded up.
We caught a few stripers on cut bait in last 2 weeks of April, the a big push of herring first week in may then totally dead 10 days later.
Myself and charter boats pulled out by second week of May.
I'm hoping this year given like conditions isn't a repeat.
If the river remains clear giving sunlight to penetrate and increase temperature, they don't stick around very long up here
