We got 8" + here in SE Pa and the roads are a mess,Rt 78 is closed for miles and most local roads are clogged with vehicles that are stuck.I am puzzled by the extreme reactiom to this storm.I did notice that when I went to the store yesterday before it started falling that the highways were not pre treated with ice melter as usual, could that be the reason for the traffic mess?

I got over a foot of snow/rain/snow.  What was light and powdery last night is now water logged and heavy.

pafisher when I was running the highways and byways of PA, the worst stuff to fall IMO, is the heavy wet stuff.

Packs into ice as soon as traffic passes over it.

The pretreatment is great for freezing rain or light fluffy snow as long as the temps (road surfaces) remain above the single digits. But let the surfaces be too cold and the light fluffy stuff melts, it will refreeze. SWEET!!! Bridge surfaces are notorious when pretreated then left unattended.

Only takes one vehicle like a single axle tractor pulling a set of pups losing traction and BINGO, traffic jam.

Hopefully that's what caused the problem and not an accident.

But once stuck and unless "chained up" nobody gonna go no where in them big trucks.

Good stuff, big trucks bring it....... unless they is in a ditch!!

My call to bail yesterday was right on the money.  The few fish that are there were not biting anyway, and we got back just as this mess got started at home.  If we stayed, we would have likely been stuck in the motel, and then driving back through the cleanup!

Good luck to all the southern zone gun hunters tomorrow.
My xbow took it's final shot for season in a target as usual.

Not discounting the decision.
For me it's if I'm gonna do it, I have to deal with the hand dealt.
My 2 trips last season were both severe snowfalls, 3 feet and above. I fished.
It seems every time I come up here to deer camp it some sort of weather event.
It sucks for sure but as I said, it only takes 1 . Its that 1 that keeps me coming.

Have a fantastic days ahead with families and friends for the upcoming holiday and new year

If it had just been me, I could have stayed longer, but 2B had to get to work today (I do to, but as a volunteer, I can call in if I am stuck somewhere).  By PM yesterday, I figure the lots were plowed out, and I had some food and pop so I could have survived at the lodge tying flies for 1/2 day.  What I avoided was having to drive through it on the way home, and about 80 of the 110 miles were in that 16" snow belt Cliff experienced.

Good luck with the goats!

Yup, after this weekend it's time to start the 2018-19 ice thread.
