BeenThereDoneThat.
28 degrees in my back yard with a westerly wind @ 3-4 MPH. Don't know what the wind chill would be but the cold moving air, aint having no trouble cuttin through my coat. Brrrrr

Not being one whose glass is half empty, I just smile and say, best get ready ice is on it's way. 👍

Clint, sure hope that stoat ya killed solves your problem. That has to be frustrating as heck. Good luck.

Picked me up a few heads of cabbage a week back and let them age a bit in the cellar. Tomorrow will be Sauerkraut in the making day, what with the cold weather that wont go away.

Be about enough time for fine home made 'kraut to dine as I welcome and wish for a happy new year, to come my way.

Lucky enough the sun was out for 3/4 of the day so outside work is done for the year. It was windy as heck though and it cut through you good.  Got a bref squall at 1800 ground is covered, with grass poking through

24 degrees on our mountain and snow is frozen crunchy. Bucks were active last night with some new scrapes around. Hopefully the wind plays nice and the deer are dumb

I drove through heavy wet snow from Pulaski to Sodus on Friday, and then "Christmas" fished in the Sodus area for an hour or so before using some available shelter to remove my waders.  Very slow on the Salmon River, I am beginning to think DSR has installed a fence, or the run is poor this year, large fish but in very low numbers.  It is past the "two weeks late" point, fished three and a half days for one pull, and 2B got one fish, didn't even see another fish hooked, went low high and in the middle.  Very discouraging.  Those of you too busy to go are not missing anything unless you were planning to go to the kingdom.

Wasn't overly impressed with the Steel run a few weeks ago and haven't read anything to improve that opinion-hope something happens to change that.
The low reports are the best they can make of them -but not impressive- IMHO.
A Spring trip at this point may be pointless.
If guys like you two are only getting a hit or two in a couple days it means that a guy with my skills wouldn't get a tap in a week. lol- sad but truth.

The river keeps changing, and we keep getting older.  You might be surprised at how little skill we still have especially using the RIO heads and swinging.  But even the pinners are doing next to nothing with eggs.

I fished the DSR exclusively this year around Columbus Day weekend.  It was the best steelhead fishing I've ever seen on the SR.  While waiting for a guy to finish fighting a king, I had a steelhead nearly swim up to my waders to hit an orange sucker spawn I had dangling in the water just a couple feet away.

That is depressing news, Lucky. I'm with RG, if you two aren't, then I ain't.   I was going to ask about down in the column, but you answered my question. Like I said, I played with a few, but that was nowhere near the days of yore.  You might have saved me a bunch of gas and  bed money.  I can
waste time on empty water in my backyard.

At least until there are better reports.  I'm going back for a few days this week, but I'm only 2 hours away, and the local water is blown out.  But I'm likely saving gas after that if it is as slow as it has been.

26 degrees this morning. Bright sunshine with a light South wind.
I don't know about wasting time and money, there are lots of worse ways to do that.
It's strange how 1 guy can post and boast 30 hook ups on steelhead a week ago in altmar and 3 days later the lots are full of cars. Hype, probably. I take stuff like that with a grain of salt.
Posts like L-13 seem realistic and I try to split things to figure the difference.
To me it may be how the person is fishing, example, you guys are swinging and not dredging. Something in between might be the difference. Pink worm or peaking nymph time ?
Anyway, getting out hunting or fishing is never really a waste of time no matter the results.
I spent over $200 in preparation to sleep in a 6X10 box on our property. Put in 14 hrs in 1 tree with nothing to show. Today I did the death march to sit in another spot .
The deer are NOT moving at all during the day , the rut is not on yet .
Shoulda kept my big mouth shut and not count my chickens before they hit the basket. Tough going and lots of time spent staring at trees.
I will be leaving today and return to the box on Wednesday until the following Monday

PS:
From January- April, tailwater is $105 a night sunday- Thursday. I'll be wasting some time there and at least it will be nice and comfy.
