Me & Reelforce Hit Ballston

Hit the water @ 5:00am knowing it was going to get hot and sunny later. Once again thought we would get a nice morning bite ... NOT.

We got fish on the edge of pads, Jeff lost a nice one right in the thick stuff early on. My 1st two fish i never got a hand on, they came off right at the side of the boat (just avg guys, so no big deal).

Short while later we run into a guy we saw at the launch, he was fishing solo and ask "you guys have a scale" ? "can you take my pic" ? ... He had just landed a nice one. Went 5.1 on my scale, we chatted for a minute but after seeing the potential i was stoked. I should have taken a pic with my camera to share with everybody but didn't think of it.

We continued on for a few hours, small one here and there. We went deeper and Jeff hooked up with something good while using drop shot ... came unbuttoned, never saw it, but drag puller ?!?!?!?!

It's now 11:00am , getting very hot , full sun. I'm probbing deep with my jig ... on one of my cast i start bringing in fast so i can cast again, BAM right at the boat comes mr smallmouth HELLO !!!

I land this, my PB smallie ... talk about unexpected.

Up until that point i thought the camera was staying in the case.

Now i'm sitting in a/c enjoying a few Yuenglings

Very nice smallie Brian. Ballston Lake has turned into one of my favorite ice fishing destination. Doesn't hurt to have the in-laws living on the lake, calling you in for hot cocoa.

I'm pretty sure Ballston used to hold the NYS record largemouth many years ago.

My pb largie was 8lbs thru the ice 2 winters ago.

When hell freezes over, I'll fish there too.

    Dude,

This is Paul, the guy who caught the 5lb 1oz largemouth.  Nice small mouth - what did it weigh?

    Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!

Ballston Lake is a real 'sleeper' with most folks...  The wakeboards can make it a tough place to fish in mid-summer and on weekends, but it sure does have some beauties in there though!!!

That smallie is the best I've seen yet out of there... Great fish!

I know the pike are tremendous in there- and the Crappie bite in the Spring was incredible this year...  I haven't fished it this late in the summer when the weeds  are full-grown.  I assume it's tough on the edges...

    Awesome fish...
