Aquatic Insect Aquarium

I am getting infomation from another site as well, but I am curious if anyone is operating an aquarium for mayflies and caddisflies and so forth, or if anyone has any knowlegde on the subject.  I am looking to get into it, but really have no idea where to start.  If anyone could help me out I would apprecite it.  Thanks.

Definately need moving water(filter system) and a bubbler for oxygen, id prob put a screen over the nosle for the filter so they dont get sucked up. Keep it cool, id say 60.... you may need a chiller, but i doubt it. Put some vegitation in there, thats what they eat...dead/live plants.

If you have ever had an aquarium, its not much different, except i would use stream water and rocks from the stream as well. Keep an eye on the ph level

Sounds fun. If you get it going, or figure it out post it. I have a spare 29 gallon with nothing in it.

A regular aquarium filter, combined with a bubble bar will move the water enough! Yep, make sure you watch where you get them from though, some streams your not aloud to remove anything aquatic. Ive kept a few things here and there over the years, from tadpoles, to rock bass, nymphs, keep the aquarium clean just like you would for store bought fish and just watch them grow. Some species need to crawl out of water to hatch so you may wanna not fill the aquarium up the whole way, put a big stick or somthing so they can get out of the water when they want, and seal off all holes with screen from a window or somthing, god knows you dont wanna wake up to 100 mayflies clinging on your celing.

I just collected a number of insects from kettle, and I want to put them in a jar to preserve. Does anyone recommend anything other than alchohol?

If they are duns/spinners, just pin them to somthing. Alcohol works the best, i use it strait up, no water. But dont be suprized if things like scuds lose all color. Nymphs I have it hasnt seemed to affect.
