Immaturity raises its ugly head once again....  For the more intellectual in the crowd here is an interesting article about the rise in immaturity among our young people..... enjoy.

The immaturity statement was not aimed at you.... Maturity has little to do with age once a person reaches adulthood...  I was speaking to some of the other posters who seem to have a need for attention, even if it means negative attention.

Whether your from Ohio, PA, NY, MI, WI, or anyhwere else for that matter, if you like steelhead fishing we all have a common interest.  Nobody is better than anyone.  Go to Canada if you want to argue over fishing Demographics, they will be happy to bicker with you.

check out this thread - http://forums.fishusa.com/what_are_stream_conditions_today_Sunday_16/m_68898/tm.htm

There are some comments there that might help.  Fish for them in the deeper pools right now and watch for them in the shallows as they begin to spawn and fall back to the lake.  There may be some fresh fish coming in as well, but nothing like what you would expect in the fall.

Good luck.

Loomis,

I gotta ask you and I am sure you have been before, who's that hot fishing chick as your avatar?

I agree with you about the common interest bit, but the Canadian deal...I am not so sure.  My father in law is a freaken Canadian and I am not so sure I'd bicker with him too much.  This winter he was ready to throw down over a dang hockey game we were watching...I don't think I'll take up bickering w/ him over fishing.lol

Fish for them in the same places you do in the fall. If you look for them in the shallow gravel yes the will be there. But why would you want to fish for actively spawning fish? Let them do their business and catch the ones below in the holes. Done and over.

Krott,

I am with ya, man!  Jesus Christ, people, these are fish.  That's all.  Catch 'em, let 'em go, keep 'em. It doesn't matter.  So long as you are following the rules, what does it matter?  It is a fish!  Give a fish the respect you feel it deserves and you should be ok.

Guys,

I hate to take this back downhill, but I have to.

BTJWG,

I got your PM.  You really think you are a tough guy, don't you?  You go on these boards and trash a KID (sorry Paul, you're not 21 yet, lol) who has an impeccable reputation and is one hell of a fisherman.  I can only hope that my 6 yr old will grow to have the drive and love for the outdoors that Krott does.  And Krott is one hell of a sportsman.  And kind.  He will help if you need it and offer advice to those who aren't faring as well.  I've seen it numerous times.  I've even been on the receiving end of his advice a few times.
Secondly, you get called on it and then you become this tough guy.  Look dude, I am not in a position to drive to Erie to have a showdown at high noon.  I WOULD LOVE TO THOUGH.  I will be sure to let you know when I make my next trip.  If you are able, come up and enjoy the swim.  You ever call me out in a PM again, I will put my foot so far up your****you will burp leather.  Maybe you should ask around before you start running your mouth.  You dont know who you are talking to or about.

I think you owe Krott a public apology.  As for me, I could care less.  Guys like you are the reason this board is going downhill and I have no use for you.

MO

so save your breath I could not hear, I think I made it very clear...

I apologize to all the fellow board members for the comments i made about BTJWG. I was just trying to stick up for krott like mossy said I  had the pleasure to meet krott and his friend one day on lower Walnut hell of a bunch of nice guys to be around 100% class act guys. I be more than happy to fish with  him any day of the week and his friends as well. I am sure they are all class act people as well. Sorry BTJWG just got under my skin and he has PMed me also calling me out. This isn't the  right place for bashing or name calling it's a place for talking about fishing and ideas. Not starting trouble. So i apologize to whoever i offended my friends. I'll never stoop to that low of a level for a guy like that again ashame on my part.

Sounds like I need to tell my trainers to open a tributary boxing gym!

But in all seriousness, fishing for steelies on the gravel isn't that much of a harm. If there were significant research that showed numbers of wild fish it would be different, but since there is not there really isn't a reason that you shouldn't fish for them.  They seem to hit anything that comes past them when they are paired up, its easy pickins so have at it.  I know on one occasion at 12 mile, (im sure u know what gravel im talking about) I had one suck in an egg pattern 6 consecutive times before I hooked him.  He was so kyped that the hook was not setting but I managed to land him.  Released safely and saw the same fish in the same spot with the same female about 5 minutes later doing what he was just doing.

If you use a red streamer you can get some vicious hits from fish that are on the gravel.  Several pieces of literature say that the logic behind this is the red simulates a rival male moving into the steelies area, and this doesn't make them happy.  I speak from experience.  Try it out!

I called out member once myself.Turned out the guy i called out ended up being real cool.He also taught me alot.Good to see you "bury the hatchet".I dont like fishing for spawning fish(on the bank) myself but have no problem with someone if they want to "fish"for them.I do alot of salmon river ny fishing and would never hesitate to battle someone trying to snag a spawning fish. Most everyone on this site are true sportsmen. There are no experts, only teachers.fishon

I love the spring runs, but I target the holes not the spawners, the fish holding in them are so much more fiesty, when I first started out sure i dangled a fly in front of the half dead fish.lol. but since then Ive learned to ignore them . Id rather catch one fireball demon fish, than 10 fish that have been spawning for hours on end and used up all there energy.

The problem is even though you're not actively fishing for spawners, you'll end up with ones on your line you had no idea were spawning.  A lot of the deep holes have enough gravel to entice spawning activity.
