Coast Guard wants to change the weight limits on these same plates. people are larger then ever and the number of people on that plate is greater than what would be the overall weight load.

    jlh,
I was once told by a WCO that all occupants are a 150lbs regardless of their actual size. Don't know if its true or not but I'm sure they have some sort of standard.

Doesn't matter how much an individual weighs. If your boat states 4 people plus gear not to exceed 800 pounds. Than you better not exceed 800 pounds period. Even if that means you only get 2 people plus gear that weighs 790 pounds. fishin coyote is right that there is a standard on a persons weight.

According to this plate a person is considered to be 125 pounds each. So that means that an outboard motor, gas tank, PFD's, anchor, fishing gear and whatever else you have onboard can not total more than 545 pounds. 545 is the magic number as weight goes.

Persons is the amount of seating outside the cabin-everyone must have a seat.
LBS is what they can weigh.
LBS, Persons, Motors, Gear is what everything you bring onboard can weigh.
Inboards or I/O's and built in gas tanks do not count.

I went through this before because someone stole the capacity plate on my jet boat.

Manufacturer will have a dry weight rating for your boat and from there its add the pieces up to come to an overall.

Got Timmy's back for the 1949 today, only took a week. Now time to send for the boat registration without any former owner information.

If you want to know what your boat and trailer weighs, take it to a scrap yard and ask if they would let you weigh it on their scale.

I worked at New Eagle Iron at the scales and weighed a few trailers for people
Hint: bring pizza at noon or 6 pack at quiting time.
I guy would come in every week for me to weigh him on the non-ferus scale.
He was trying to loose weight and a home scale was too small to see how he was doing.
I also gave the Water Department unladen weights for their backhoes etc. that are driven on public streets.

        Jeremy,

the only thing you needed the notery for was the trailer. you could of said it was a gift. Plate is $6.00 & a 2 year boat sticker is $26.00.

      Oh well it's only $$$$

It still would have cost me the same amount. I said the boat was $100, paid what... $6.

You got screwed a purdy good one. Just did one for $6 trailer plate, $20 notery fee, $26 for a 2 year boat sticker, no notery needed for boat paper work, do it yourself. Total for the works came to $52.

      Oh well it's just monies
